Sleeping Bag Fitting Guide

How will you fit in your sleeping bag? We’re all different shapes and sizes, which can affect on how we might use a sleeping bag in more extreme conditions.

We break sleeping bag fit down into three general categories: Spacious, Optimum, and Tight.

Spacious:

Thermal efficiency: There will be a bit of extra space in the bag, reducing thermal efficiency.

Fit: You’ll have room to sleep comfortably and space to wear extra layers too.

Optimum:

Thermal efficiency: You are the ideal candidate for this bag.

Fit: You should be able to easily arrange yourself in the bag; you’ll probably have space to wear a down jacket too if needed!

Tight:

Thermal efficiency: You’ll be slightly compressing the down, reducing the thermal efficiency, especially at the feet.

Fit: You’ll have limited movement around your shoulders. You should be able to take your socks off in the bag, but may struggle to take off a layer without unzipping the bag.
