Perfection at last
Have tried many gaiters on my running shoes but never found one that I liked till now. They just stayed in the drawer at home. The fit of Alpkits offering is superb stays in place keeps out the crap. No other one I have tried have come close. They also look quite good. And then there is the price. Win win win. Can't praise them enough. Even better is to combine these with Alpkits new waterproof socks. Dry and comfortable feet.
Used these for the first time running in the hills at the weekend - covered approx 27 km of bog, heather, bracken and river crossings. The gaiters stayed in place without any adjustment for the whole day and I forgot I had them on most of the time. They kept my shoes free of debris and were super easy to clean at the end of the day! Really impressed.
Work very well
I got a pair a few weeks ago and have since worn them on trips to the Peak District and Dartmoor.
I have worn them with Inov8 280, 295 and Adidas Terrex Mids.
As a gaiter they work very well at keeping debris out. They are loose enough as to not restrict blood flow but tight enough to not slid down.
I find the fit very good on the trail shoes, I had to raise them up one lace run on the mid boots, they worked very well on both types.
The underlacing works well to keep the gaiter fit nice and snug but the cord wore through after around 19 miles over mixed terrain, rocky pathway, moorland, tors etc. I have replaced the cord with 2mm Dyneema which appears to be wearing a little better.
Got these in a recent sale so reasonable value. I'm not a seasoned runner by any means but have recently been enjoying taking the dog for a run through some local woodland, with the associated dirt, twigs and grit getting into my shoes. They've done a great job of stopping that. Went for S/M even though I'm 8.5 shoe size. Snug, but once you master the technique they're relatively easy to get on, and you easily forget you're wearing them as light and breathable. Maybe a little pricey for what they are, but quality seems good and they function very well in the dry (haven't used them in the wet yet)
All good apart from the cord
These feel great to run in and do a good job keeping stuff out of your shoe. I was concerned they might be sweaty and uncomfortable but have done several >25km runs in them where I quickly forgot I was wearing them.
The downside is the underfoot cord. I have worn through them in a single run when the trail is rocky. I'm now experimenting with diff cord options: wrapped in duct tape, thin wire, etc
how to get them on?
Received these today. Large; I take a size 10. I struggled getting them ove my sock. No way they will go over a trail shoe. I tried putting the gaiter on then the shoe, but no way could i get the cord under the shoe. How the heck do you put them on??? Good quality by the way.
Sizing completely wrong
Size large/medium. My shoe size is 12 within the stated size for this product. They do not open on the front or back as every other gaitor does, just a small gusset at the top. The maximum circumference of the top of the gaiter is 28cm, if any part of your foot is larger than that you will not be able to put them on. I cannot even get them over my foot, there is no way these would go over even a very narrow running shoe size 12.
