Bivvy, boulder, ride and climb. From working days outdoors in the mountains to seeking the haven of the refuge; riding the big mountain trails and high level alpine passes.
Woodsmoke is an innovation in mountain shirts. Made from ThermoTech® polyester with hollow core fibres that trap more air to give you more insulation, it has a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than normal Polyester, making it an ideal mid layer.
The brushed fabric is as comfortable as your favourite cotton shirt, but wicks moisture away from your skin and dries quickly. Along with the snap front closure for easy venting, this makes the Woodsmoke ideal for faster paced days outdoors, whether you’re hiking, biking, or climbing.
Woodsmoke’s stretchy brushed flannel fabric moves with you and feels incredibly soft on your skin. The articulated fit gives great freedom of movement across the shoulders, making it ideal for anything from riding until you fall upon camp for the night, to stretching for that elusive hold on your bouldering project. Chest pockets with secure snap closure are ideal for keeping your valuables safe.
The Woodsmoke shirt is treated with Polygiene odour control technology, so you can wear it all week in the Alpine summertime then wear it on the plane home too without ruffling any feathers.
ThermoTech® is a polyester fibre engineered to keep you warm and comfy from when you’re slogging up that Alpine pass to when you’re making you’re way back down again. Hollow fibres trap body heat to keep you warm and wick moisture away from the skin to keep you dry and comfortable.

worth the money
this is a well made and comfortable shirt that will last a very long time, so also good for the environment in that respect.
A little pricey but you get what you pay for, good fit, good quality, nice soft material that can be hung up straight from the wash and worn without ironing and enough stretch to move freely.
I would prefer a tiny bit extra length, even half an inch or so in the torso but still my new favourite as is and I'm already looking at the blue one.
Well reviews of an Alpkit productbut not first purchase. Everything I have got so far has been excellent quality. The shirt is brilliant. Super comfy fabric. No too hot, love the poppers and plenty of room for sleeves to be rolled up. I’d say the size is a little generous but I don’t mind a little space to move about in. Great shirt. Already a firm favourite. Apkit, what about a shirt sleeve version ??
New blue colour (Shut up and take my money!)
Two five star reviews for the same product, is that allowed? Well, I've bought two. I bought my first Woodsmoke (the green one in the pic) last summer and while I liked it instantly I've grown to love it, I've absolutely hammered it, on the hill, out on the bike, and general casual wear, and it's still as good as new. When I saw there was a new blue colour it was the fastest purchasing decision I've ever made. Outstanding product, superbly comfortable and practical, doesn't look too shabby either.
Superb shirt ... even when it bites!
I have just returned from a brilliant trekking holiday in Nepal with my two sons. I bought this shirt days before we set-off and I am so glad I did. The shirt performed brilliantly and it was rarely off my back when the temperature plummeted, I just kept it on, and no pong after days of trekking! Temperature regulation is easy with a shirt as you can pop the buttons and un-tuck it if things get a bit hot. The material is very soft and slightly stretchy. It feels great.
One slight niggle which I am sure was the shirt was that my beard would occasionally catch on the top stud fastener on the inside of the collar. Ouch!
I'll buy another sometime.
Alpkit blurb said: 'the most comfortable shirt you'll ever own'. 'tis legit: defo. not hyperbole.
4 month review
iv had this shirt in red, since Christmas and it is by far the best shirt iv owned. I wear it at every opportunity. its comfortable and thus far seems very durable. I would recommend it, though the sizing is somewhat odd. I found the small to fit me and will buy another one of this ever dies. though it seems like that is some time away yet.
Another quality Alpkit Product
I second what Mad Mozart says with regard to this shirt: the missus bloody loves it...
Technically, comfortable to wear next to the skin, warm in the cold and cool in the warm, windproof, fast-drying and all-round excellent. Doesn't need ironing, excellent cut, big fan of the poppers rather than buttons. Buy lots of these and support a UK brand. Big ups
Be careful around ladies
Absolutely amazing shirt! Quality and looks over the roof. I wore it only once and my girlfriend melted. Don't wanna spoil it, but we did it right away. You know what I'm talking about. SEX. Twice. It's that good.
Got 2, getting another.
Own two of these already. Really comfortable for casual or active use and can take a lot wear between washes. Found myself saying “if only they made one in blue”. Just opened the site to find that they now do. Looks like I’ll be on 3 very soon...
Bought this for mountain biking and hillwalking . Very pleased with it . Considering buying another .
Great quality shirt
Very nice fitting shirt in a comfortable material, like the pop type fasteners as prefer them to buttons. Have not worn if for any activities as yet so cannot comment on the anti smell properties
I had no issues with the label as was previously mentioned by an earlier reviewer. All in all a great multi purpose shirt....
Great riding shirt
I bought a woodsmoke shirt a couple of months ago for long distance gravel riding. I've used it for 3 multi-day rides and it is superb. Ideal for New Zealand autumn conditions (~15 to 18 degrees C) although it will be too warm for summer! Green colour is visible enough when cycling!!
A great shirt that feels good on, and also feels like a quality shirt.
Usual prompt Service from Alpkit!
My new favourite shirt
I bought this shirt specifically for lightweight cycle touring, where when I'm off the bike among other people I don't want to a) look like a cyclist b) honk like a goose. For this purpose it's superb - the fit is slim/tailored so it doesn't flap about like a flag, but there is plenty give thanks to the inbuilt stretch. The fabric has a nice soft feel, dries quickly and has a pleasing weight to it. I've sweated in it plenty and no smell issues so far. Smart enough to wear down the pub, nice discreet branding. It will get a lot of wear walking on the hills too. No particular issues with the label Highly recommendedm
Looks pretty much like a bog standard cotton work shirt from the market, but with plenty hidden tech. A good combo. Clever cut, plenty stretch, extemely quick drying, keeps off a good breeze. I've been wearing mine mostly jacket style. If you plan to wear as a 'dress' shirt check the press studs on the placket, one of mine was set a little off centre and would affect the fit if you were going for a smarter look.
Nice shirt - shame about the label
I saw this shirt in an email from Alpkit and bought one straight away. It arrived promptly and fitted really well. Nice feel to the fabric. Still to run it through the wash so no idea of shrinkage, but as it's 100% artificial fiber I don't expect it too.
Now to my gripe - why do clothing makers insist on putting labels in that have had their cut edges heat sealed? What you end up with is a nice little sawtooth rasp on the back of your neck, and the only solution is to cut it out, which is a shame as Alpkit's label is a nice little loop that you can hang the shirt with - except it comes straight out and in the bin.
That said, as always Alpkit have made a nice stylish comfortable shirt, that I hope will be part of my wardrobe for a long time to come - minus the label of course.
Nice quality, not a great fit
Like many of the guys reviewing this shirt, I bought it because I wanted to look manly and rugged while enjoying the outdoors. As my wife said, it's a shirt, not a magic spell. Harsh. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Alpkit and have lots of gear, but while the quality of this shirt seemed great, the fit did not. Just a bit baggy and shapeless. So I returned it with a heavy heart. My search for rugged manliness goes on...
Great fit, comfy, good-looking, warm. Poppers are the future but...they are the best and worst thing about this shirt. Great for ease of use and probably longevity - no buttons to fall of - but the ones used are super chunky. If you have tight fitting clothing over the top or a seat belt or bag strap crossing a popper then you will feel it. Also the back plate of the poppers have a very thin, slightly wider plastic washer underneath. The edges are sharp and scratchy against the skin. No issue if you are wearing a baselayer. I love press studs but not these ones.
