How will you fit? Our guide is based on the user wearing thin base layers.
Spacious: 5ft3 tall or you have a shoulder circumference of around 100 cm. The bag will be perfectly useable but you will have space within the bag. For this reason it will not be as thermally efficient as an optimum fit but it will be comfortable and you will easily be able to wear extra layers.
Optimum: 5ft11 tall or you have a shoulder circumference of around 124 cm. At this size you are the ideal candidate for this bag. You should be able to easily arrange yourself in the bag, and still have the space to wear an additional down jacket if necessary.
Tight: 6ft1 tall or you have a shoulder circumference of around 128 cm. At this size you will start to compress the down and reduce the thermal efficiency of the bag, especially in the foot section and have limited movement around your shoulders when the zip is full closed. You should still be able to take your socks off, but might struggle to take off a top layer without undoing the zip.
When viewed alongside our PD250 down bag you would be hard pushed to notice the difference, but all is not as it seems. The fill of our Mountain Ghost sleeping bag is as wispy as its intruiging name suggests. When you can’t always be sure that you will be able to keep your kit dry synthetic fill sleeping bags offer a degree of reassurance that you just don’t get with down bags. Synthetic fibers hate water, so unlike down sleeping bags they maintain some of their insulating ability when wet. This will give you greater comfort and will dry more quickly. They are also easier to care for, meaning you might actually clean your bag more often and keep it performing at its best. The name is apt, the synthetic insulation is very loosely matted and mimics the feel of down. By that we mean it is lofted and soft to the touch, compared with the matted continuos fibre synthetic fills you may be used to in your 80’s skisuit or budget sleeping bags you will feel like you are wrapped up in a bubbly cloud of cushty warmth. The full length YKK zip is protected by a baffle with an antisnag strip. The simple stitch-thru construction and roomy chest girth make it a practical bag for many users.
