A minimalist, hood-free, lightweight construction, half-zip windshirt giving great venting to dump excess heat, but also super comfortable when riding, running or wearing beneath a harness. Pull-ons are lighter to wear, with less to go wrong and more importantly they are cut for comfort. Without the bulk and added rigidity of a full-length zip, smocks are made for movement which is ideal when climbing, running and riding.
The outer fabric is more breathable than a completely windproof shell, allowing 6 CFM of airflow, which is just about noticeable in the strongest of winds yet sacrifices little protection. Zoned gridded fleece leaves the under-arms and side panels uninsulated, letting you dump heat when working hard without losing wind protection.
The Morphosis can be worn over a base layer and works really well with Kepler merino and for high output activities.

Top bit of kit
This is a fantastib bit of kit, really useful for any sport mtb, running ,hill walking etc. Just warm enough for autumn and spring , very windproof and will take a shower. Its a stripped down jacket for fast and light ventures. Top bit of kit.
Impressive- almost great
Just received my reef morphosis half zip and used it for some summit-bagging in the Mourne Mountains today. In summary- an impressive piece of kit for hillwalking/hiking.
The outer shell immediately felt very light but it was certainly robust enough for use with a backpack, showing no signs of wear and tear. Very breathable and just the right amount of insulation for active use in low single figure temps. The most impressive bit was how it dealt with some light rain- the DWR performed superbly.
My only niggle was the rather odd half-elasticated wrist. Basically pointless, too loose around my wrist for the elastic to do anything anyway.
This would be five stars with a decent elasticated wrist and I would suggest making the half zip a hoody too.
I can see this will be a favourite outer layer for autumn/winter/spring hiking.
Pretty damn good !!!
Bought this on a whim just before a trip to PYB and have absolutely loved it, the hybrid windshell, flease is great for so many situations, the only thing I can think that could improve this smock would be a kangaroo pocket on the front for gloves, hats, maps etc. the single chest pocket it just a little to small for some things. I can also see that this might be good for running when the weather drops colder.
Good, but with a small set of tweaks could be Great
Great bit of kit, but it could be improved by
- making the zip slightly deeper and two way - so you can vent from the bottom
- adding thumb loops
- making that chest pockt slight bigger so I can get my map in it easily
