Filoment Hoody [Mens] Hydrophobic hooded down jacket
Incredibly light and packable 650 fill power hooded down jacket with Downtek hydrophobic down, a cosy mid layer or top layer for mountain marathons, Alpine starts or chilly summer evenings
The sun is slipping below the mountain horizon as you start up the last pitch of the day, or maybe you’re trying to keep your load as light and compact as possible as you race across the dragon’s back. Either way you need a jacket that doesn’t get in your way on the technical bits, but is versatile enough to fit into any layering system.
Filoment was designed to keep you warm when you’re moving fast and light. Incredibly packable, light and slim-fitting, we’ve worn ours as top layers spring evenings around camp, cosy mid layers for those Alpine starts, and even as part of our sleep systems on ambitiously minimalist mountain marathons.
650 fill power ethically-sourced duck down gives the Filoment its excellent warmth to weight ratio... in fact, it’s our most packable insulated jacket. Narrow micro baffles to hold the down in the best place and give the Filoment the slim fit that makes it comfortable when you’re being active in the day, as well as when you’re layering up in the evening.
Filoment has an active cut with a longer back and articulated arms that stop it from riding up when you’re reaching for that next hold or bending over to fit your snowshoes. The insulated zip baffle and chin guard ensures that you’re well-defended against the cold, whilst the under-helmet hood helps you stay cosy at your belay too.
When you need a warm boost, you can bury your hands in the two zipped hand pockets whilst the internal ‘dump’ pockets take care of all your stuff. Filoment also has an external chest pocket for your phone, keys, and other valuables.
Filoment now uses a 40gsm nylon outer fabric that’s soft yet durable enough to cope with active use as an outer layer. The filling is treated with Downtek Water Repellent treatment for improved performance and recovery in damp conditions, and a DWR coating fends of moisture and dirt.
Incredibly packable and light, Filoment is a favourite amongst the AK team as an outer layer for dry and cold weather or a warm mid layer.
DOWNTEK WATER REPELLENT DOWN
DownTek-treated down absorbs less water than untreated down. This means it retains its loft better in damp or humid conditions, dries quicker, and recovers better too, keeping you warmer in damp environments than untreated down. DownTek is environmentally safe - Bluesign approved, PFC, PFOA, and PFOS free – and uses only RDS certified down sources. Remember, it's better not to get your down wet – even water repellent down is no substitute for a waterproof shell!
RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD
We use only RDS certified down; all our down is audited by a third party to ensure that it comes from birds who are not live-plucked, force-fed, or mistreated. That’s good to know.

The chemical finish that keeps water beading off your jacket has changed. As with all garments from responsible outdoor brands, our DWR treated garments meet international environmental standards and require occasional washing with a technical wash to maintain their high breathability. This wasn’t always the case. Years ago, garments were treated with chemicals that had toxic by-products that lingered in the environment for generations. Those old chemicals needed little maintenance, whereas modern waterproofs need regular washing. We fully support this change. In fact, we quite like the idea of taking time to look after our kit so that it lasts a long time. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our products –in fact it’s in our DNA: we can’t imagine ever doing anything else. We always review the materials we use, manufacturing methods and our own consumption of resources. We do the research, make informed decisions, and choose the best option available to us.
Product Care Information
You can and should wash this garment, most active outdoor folk do this once or twice a year.
Washing and re-waterproofing flushes out the dirt and oils that have accumulated so that it puffs up nicely and works better in damp conditions
Don’t panic! Down is surprisingly durable and washing is not an onerous task. You can wash it in a front loading washing machine with our detailed instructions (see the FAQs).
