We use 100% genuine New Zealand merino wool to ensure our Kepler long-sleeved top deserves a place in everyones outdoor layering system.

Kepler fits right in there with its excellent performance over a vast range of conditions. Quite simply it is a garment that does many things really rather well. The 1/4 length zip lets you ventilate as your work rate increases. The zip sits neatly inside a zip garage to protect your chin and the high collar keeps the draughts out or the sun off the back of your neck.

Thumb retainers in the cuffs stop the arms riding up to expose your wrists to the cold, useful when your activity involves a lot of reaching. Kepler is designed to be worn snug, but doesn’t need to be so skin tight that you feel self conscious in the pub at the end of the day.

Breathable, wicking, fast drying and famously odour resistant, merino can be worn in the hot, in the cold, in the wet and in the dry. For all round comfort over extended durations merino is our baselayer of choice. Our Kepler Zip Top uses superfine 17.2 micron merino for great performance and comfort.

The benefits of Merino
Kepler is made using only the finest sustainably sourced non-mulesed New Zealand merino.

Merino wool is a natural material with properties that make it ideal for the changeable conditions you will experience during mountain activities, maybe that’s why New Zealand Merino sheep look so content strutting around their hillsides.

When you are on a mission you don’t want to be changing your layers with every turn in the weather. When it is cold Merino keeps you warm by trapping small pockets of air within its fibres. When its warm the same fibres will help to whisk moisture away from your skin so it can evaporate back into the water cycle! If you have been trapped in your garment for several days the antibacterial properties of a chemical called lanolin will help you stop ponging.

Merino baselayer won’t make you fitter, it won’t make you faster, but it will help you feel more comfortable when you find yourself in uncomfortable circumstances.

Merino wool is a natural material with properties that make it ideal for the changeable conditions you will experience during mountain activities, maybe thats why New Zealand Merino sheep look so content strutting around their hillsides. When you are on a mission you dont want to be changing your layers with every turn in the weather. Merino baselayer wont make you fitter, it wont make you go faster, but it will help you feel more comfortable when you find yourself in uncomfortable circumstances. The better you look after this merino baselayer the better it will look after you. Cleaning can be done in luke warm handwash (or gentle machine wash). Merino can and does develop holes the more adventures you go on, so darn these up as soon as you can, othersise they will get bigger and youll be needing a new one! Common causes include snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through them when pulliing them on and hungry moths.

Excellent baselayer

Very pleased with my Kepler Zip Top baselayer which I bought at Hathersage. It does exactly what is says in the description and is very good value.

Great top

Used this on wee bike tour wild camping last week on my Sonder Camino SRAM Ti. (Photos won't load) Fort William - Inverness on trail. Then across country to Skye via Plockton etc-Mallaig and back to Fort William.

I wore this top the whole time washing once. It's definately my Best Buy for a long time. Comfortable, easy on the skin and washes and dries easily. I'll have a spare soon 10/10

Superb

Just got back from a weekend trip with mixed weather conditions warm, very wet, cool, dry and the Kelper top served me well either under my waterproof jacket in downpours preventing that clammy feeling and keeping me warm in the evenings. Really appreciate the fact it’s not skin tight like a lot of other Merino wool garments; perfect for my needs as a mid layer.
As ever Alpkit standards with all kit and clothing is superb.

zip version

I have this and the non-zip l/s version (see my other review) - the zipped version looks a bit more 'technical' and sporty and thus gets a bit less use than its zipless sibling but is the same amazing quality. Nice high collar if you're concerned about drafts or sunburn.
