Alpine summer, Scottish winter, Autumn on the gritstone… You don’t want your base layer to be as seasonally limited as your outdoor activities.
Breathable, wicking, fast drying and famously odour resistant, merino can be worn in the hot, in the cold, in the wet and in the dry. For all round comfort over extended durations merino is our baselayer of choice.
A high collar keeps your neck protected from draughts or the sun whilst the ¼ zip neck opening gives ventilation when needed. Thumb loops keep the full-length sleeves in place, ensuring your forearms stay well protected.
Flatlock seams and an anatomical cut enhance the natural next-to-skin comfort of merino. Kepler is designed to have a flattering fit that isn’t too ‘base layery’, so you’ll fit right in at the pub after a day on the hill.
The Kepler range uses beautiful, ultrafine merino for a luxuriously comfortable next-to-skin feel.
With thermoregulatory and anti-microbial properties, merino wool is more than a match for day-in, day-out use across the temperatures in changeable mountain conditions, help you to stay fresh, comfortable, and protected no matter what the weather decides.
We use 100% natural New Zealand merino from non-mulesing farms.
Merino baselayer won’t make you fitter, it won’t make you faster, but it will help you feel more comfortable when you find yourself in uncomfortable circumstances.

Product Care Information
The better you look after this merino garment, the better it will look after you. Give your Kepler a long, happy life with these tips:
Hand wash your merino in lukewarm water, or gentle machine wash.
Darn any holes as soon as possible so they don’t grow.
Avoid snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through the fabric, and hungry moths.

Great all-around layer
I have been wearing this, along with the Kepler Excluder buff almost ever day. Sometime I even forget it's on - also forgetting that it's 10F colder than I think; the fabric is pretty thin, but hey, this is a baselayer and does the job. Love the thumb loops, but wish the sleeves were a little longer. I am 6'-1" and wear a Small to fit my thin build, so maybe larger sizes have longer sleeves.
I've used this for a number of hikes including a 7 day tour de Mont Blanc hike and this top is amazing. It fits perfectly and never developed any strong smell even after several days of wearing it and sweating a lot. Also seems robust as I've carried heavy backpacks rubbing on the shoulder area for days on end without seeing any wear or tear. My favorite aspect of the top is that it is very versitle as the long front zipper over the chest allows you regulate temperature easily - I found that just closing and opening the zipper helped a lot with micromanaging temperature so it reduces the number of times you have to take the top off or put on a warmer layer. Highly recommended!
Its so warm! I'll probably wear it as a t-shirt in spring/summer. Wore it for 3 days bike packing and whilst I stunk the top didn't smell at all. Kept me warm but not too hot the whole time!
I have this and the non-zip l/s version (see my other review) - the zipped version looks a bit more 'technical' and sporty and thus gets a bit less use than its zipless sibling but is the same amazing quality. Nice high collar if you're concerned about drafts or sunburn.
Just got back from a weekend trip with mixed weather conditions warm, very wet, cool, dry and the Kelper top served me well either under my waterproof jacket in downpours preventing that clammy feeling and keeping me warm in the evenings. Really appreciate the fact it’s not skin tight like a lot of other Merino wool garments; perfect for my needs as a mid layer.
As ever Alpkit standards with all kit and clothing is superb.
Used this on wee bike tour wild camping last week on my Sonder Camino SRAM Ti. (Photos won't load) Fort William - Inverness on trail. Then across country to Skye via Plockton etc-Mallaig and back to Fort William.
I wore this top the whole time washing once. It's definately my Best Buy for a long time. Comfortable, easy on the skin and washes and dries easily. I'll have a spare soon 10/10
Very pleased with my Kepler Zip Top baselayer which I bought at Hathersage. It does exactly what is says in the description and is very good value.
Great top, but......
Great top but it is NOT "fast drying" I'm afraid. Washed twice, following guidelines, since having mine and on both occasions it has taken in excess of 24 hours to dry! No lie!
