A proper 3 person sized backpacking tent that you just wont want to take down.
Jaran 3 is a very roomy backpacking tent for 2 people, or a cosy tent for 3 people. Its headroom means you can comfortably sit upright and twin porches gives plenty of storage space for muddy boots and rain-drenched bags. All seams are factory-taped using waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape.
If you are traveling as a pair or trio, you will be able to split the weight of the tent between the group so you can afford to choose a tent with more generous spacing. At under 1 kg per person, the Jaran will easily become your go-to choice of tent.
After a busy day of rambling, kayaking, climbing or just having fun, having a diligently designed tent will certainly increase your chances of getting a good night’s sleep. The colour-coded webbing on Jaran 3 assists you in setting up quickly without too much fumbling in the dark.
The thicker fabric of Jaran 3 gives it increased durability- ideal for longer trips where it is harder to ensure optimum pitching conditions. On adventurous journeys, you can never perfectly predict the weather. Whether you are knocking around in the outback of Oz or exploring mountains in the Lakes, the horizontal crossbar incorporated in Jaran 3 increases the stability and spaciousness of the tent. However, Jaran 3 strikes a wonderful balance between space and still keeping the weight to 2.14 kg.
Jaran 3 benefits from having two sizable vestibules (136 cm x 74 cm) which after a week or two of tent life, you will be undoubtedly grateful for. When you are sharing a tent with 2 others, after a few days you will certainly appreciate not having to wake up with their socks and boots in your face.

Great tent - acres of space!
I love this tent! It has an amazing amount of space inside for a lightweight tent - more than ample for 2 people and a big dog, which was my plan. I've had no problems carrying it for solo trips too, having put the tent fabric into a compression stuff-sack to save space. The two porches mean there's no need to clamber over each other, or to keep all the wet kit in the way of the exit. It is inner pitch first, but it's quick to do, and the geodesic design mean you can move it to the perfect spot once the inner is up. I really like the way Alpkit tents clip the outer to the inner at the ends of the poles - it's a neat solution and feels strong.
I was surprised how much of the inner is mesh rather than fabric, although I guess this is to keep weight down. It does mean that the tent isn't as warm as it might be though, so make sure your sleeping bag is a good one if you're planning to be out on a cold night!
You just can’t beat it
We are cycle campers and this is our second Jarran 3. The previous blue version is still going strong since we bought it in 2015 but it now lives out of the UK so we were on the hunt for a similar style tent for home. Looked very hard at the current market (as of March 2019) including all the top brands and decided that for us the Jarran 3 was unbeatable. Money wasn’t a massive concern but the thing that swung it for us was the folded pole length at 39cm. We can then stuff the whole tent very quickly in our panniers with the poles vertical. For those worried about HH - we have never had a problem or with gravelly ground even without the footprint (which we find more useful as a tarp).
