Bubble wrap bed? Check! Some form of Franken-tent? Check! For some adventures we find all manner of bizarre hacks to keep the weight down. Fortunately, we’ve already cut the arms off the Filoment jacket so that you don’t have to…
Filoment vest provides the warmth of the Filoment jacket around your core, leaving your arms unrestricted for when you’re moving quickly. It’s perfect for cross-country skiing, Alpine ascents, mountain marathons and adventure biking (to name a few). In fact, it’s our choice for any situation where a light, compact pack-size and freedom of movement are the top priority.
It’s not just having no sleeves that makes Filoment vest incredibly packable. 650 fill power ethically-sourced duck down gives it an excellent warmth to weight ratio, with narrow stitch-through micro baffles to keep the down where it should be.
These micro baffles also give Filoment its slim fit, which makes it really comfortable when you’re moving quickly. This is complemented by an active cut, with a slightly dropped hem at the back for coverage when stretching and lycra bound armholes that feel comfortable and prevent draughts around your arms. Filoment vest’s lack of sleeves gives you excellent freedom of movement and make it much more breathable than a jacket when layered under a shell.
For a boost of warmth, you can bury your hands in the zipped hand warmer pockets whilst the external zipped chest pocket takes care of your valuables. The zip baffle, chin guard, and adjustable hem prevent pesky draughts from finding their way in.
Filoment vest uses a soft and light yet durable 40gsm nylon outer fabric, so it’s well equipped to handle the demands of active use. The down filling is hydrophobic so it retains its loft in damp conditions and recovers better too, whilst a DWR coating fends off moisture and dirt.
Filoment vest is perfect for layering over a base or mid layer and sits comfortably beneath a shell when the weather is against you. Either way, it saves space in your pack when you’re not wearing it and leaves you unrestricted when you are.
DOWNTEK WATER REPELLENT DOWN
DownTek-treated down absorbs less water than untreated down. This means it retains its loft better in damp or humid conditions, dries quicker, and recovers better too, keeping you warmer in damp environments than untreated down. DownTek is environmentally safe - Bluesign approved, PFC, PFOA, and PFOS free – and uses only RDS certified down sources. Remember, it's better not to get your down wet – even hydrophobic down is no substitute for a waterproof shell!
RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD
We use only RDS certified down; all our down is audited by a third party to ensure that it comes from birds who are not live-plucked, force-fed, or mistreated. That’s good to know.

The chemical finish that keeps water beading off your jacket has changed. As with all garments from responsible outdoor brands, our DWR treated garments meet international environmental standards and require occasional washing with a technical wash to maintain their high breathability. This wasn’t always the case. Years ago, garments were treated with chemicals that had toxic by-products that lingered in the environment for generations. Those old chemicals needed little maintenance, whereas modern waterproofs need regular washing. We fully support this change. In fact, we quite like the idea of taking time to look after our kit so that it lasts a long time. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our products –in fact it’s in our DNA: we can’t imagine ever doing anything else. We always review the materials we use, manufacturing methods and our own consumption of resources. We do the research, make informed decisions, and choose the best option available to us.
Product Care Information
You can and should wash this garment, most active outdoor folk do this once or twice a year.
Washing and re-waterproofing flushes out the dirt and oils that have accumulated so that it puffs up nicely and works better in damp conditions
Don’t panic! Down is surprisingly durable and washing is not an onerous task. You can wash it in a front loading washing machine with our detailed instructions (see the FAQs).

Mmm like a hot chocolate
Light to the touch, light to pack, but a warm shield when on. I wore with an alpkit smock/wind shirt ( sorry forgot the name) and felt very comfortable in the autumn winds. I would wear skiing, hiking and down the pub.
