Summer is for high alpine peaks, winter is for icefalls, spring and autumn are for exploring wild places closer to home... Our calendar seems to always revolve around the mountains.
Considered features make the Ardent trousers really come into their own for climbing and alpinism. A choice of pockets, including 2 thigh pockets that you can get to with a harness on, make getting to your stuff that bit easier. The lower legs are gusseted to fit over mountaineering boots, with zips to pull them in so you can wear them with your walking boots or approach shoes too.
Ardent softshell trousers are protective and tough, cutting out the cold and wind and keeping you comfortable over a wider range of conditions without restricting your movements, so that you can enjoy being active in the mountains without thinking about what you’re wearing.
Ardent trousers are made from a double weave softshell with a water repellent coating. This creates a two-layer fabric to make them abrasion, wind and water resistant on the outside, yet breathable, comfortable and soft on the inside. A touch of spandex in the fabric means you’re not hindered on the harder moves, and a gusseted crotch and articulated knees accommodates even the more audacious of bridging moves.
Ardent are designed to cope with the rigours of mountain activities, whether that be high level summer alpinism or Lakeland winter days on the Old Man. The tough double weave fabric is reinforced on the knee, instep and rear with stretch ripstop to reduce wear.

As with all water resistant garments from responsible outdoor brands, our water resistant garments meet international environmental standards and require occasional washing with a technical wash to maintain their high breathability. This wasn’t always the case. Years ago, garments were treated with chemicals that had toxic by-products that lingered in the environment for generations. Those old chemicals needed little maintenance, whereas modern waterproofs need regular washing. We fully support this change. In fact, we quite like the idea of taking time to look after our kit so that it lasts a long time. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our products –in fact it’s in our DNA: we can’t imagine ever doing anything else. We always review the materials we use, manufacturing methods and our own consumption of resources. We do the research, make informed decisions, and choose the best option available to us.
Product Care Information
To maintain the water resistance of your trousers, we recommend you wash and re-proof once or twice a year using specialist products like Nikwax or Grangers. For more information, read our detailed care instructions.

Great cold weather trousers
I bought the Ardent for a winter fatbiking trip in Norway and they are perfect. Warm without being too hot when you're working, stretchy so they are comfortable and can layer over leggings or thermals, and water resistant so the snow stays out. The softshell fabric means that the sweat evaporates out easily and you stay dry inside.
If I was to make one change, it would be some sort of ventilation, but that would also add to the weight and cost, so perhaps they are fine as they are.
I am 69kg with a 30 waist and small fits me well.
Warm and wearable
Just got back from the French Alps. The Ardent trouseres were in daily use around town, up the mountains, under hardshells and up icefalls! They remained comfy and kept the cold out really well. The internal belt did the job and the leg zips ensured a tight fit around boots to keep any chills out. All in all a good pair of trousers for mountain use!
