The smooth outer face gives Akita a touch more wind-resistance than your regular fleece making it perfect as an outer layer on an Autumn day or for fast-paced activities on chilly winter mornings. Akita is great for layering under beefier jackets and its slim fit with a modern cut makes it as ideal for wearing when hanging around at events as it is for technical warmth.
A sharp cold wind is no excuse for not getting out on the hill, especially when you’ve got your Akita with you.

A very user-friendly jacket
This is perfect as an outer layer in warmer spring and autumn days or to wear under something like the Heiko on cold winter days. It is a real no-nonsense jacket, simple and easy to wear, with comfortable cuffs and decent pockets to keep your hands warm.
This could be even better with a zipped chest pocket, like that on the Griffon, to stash a phone and some cash/a card, but the balance between weight and warmth is such that this makes a mockery of the idea that coats need to be thick and bulky to repel the cold. It's also great against the wind, so another layer is necessary on blustery days.
I have the Steel, which I think looks really stylish with the green zip and Alpkit logo on the chest.
Great value fleece midlayer
Lightweight, well designed, and well constructed. Used it for a trek to Annapurna base camp when it performed well at over 4000 m under an Alpkit Filoment down jacket. Great value.
Brilliant peace off kit
I got the slight second could not find what was wrong with it ,,looking very hard still can't find it , excellent peace off kit so simple but very well thought out very good quality does wat it's meant to do without any bells and whistles well certainly be using it all year round you have a new costumer Alpkit thanks
Excellent fleece, slim fit cut is perfect on my XL, very well made, always a quality feel when there are bonded hems.
As has been mentioned by other reviews I would like to see thumb-holes to give that extra option instead of gloves.
Great bit of kit
So versatile, helps a smooth transition from the hills into the pub. Really love mine!
Great fit, looks & feels great too. Warm and I love the colour. Might get another 1
Keep up the great work AlpKit
Don't want to take it off
Ordered this as a Christmas present to myself because it was in the sale and I told myself the small (only size left in grey) probably wouldn't fit anyway so it would end up going back. Turns out it fits a treat (on the snug side, but still totally fine), and I ended up not wanting to take it off for most of the Christmas period - even when I was just in the house. It's lovely bit of kit - nice and stretchy, soft, toasty and looks the business too.
First bit of Alpkit gear
I bought my first bit of Alpkit gear the Akira top , it arrived promptly with a hand written not of thanks for the order
( nice touch ) ..
So I Put my top on and went for a run in the hills with my dog , I normally have a t-shirt fleece and thin running jacket as -6 tonight . I replaced the fleece with the Akira and what a difference less sweating and more warmth rite away even when working hard I did not feel sodden which in the cold is a real bonus when it comes to cooling down and walking the dog after the run .
Top marks Alpkit , not only for a great bit of kit but running a business that cares about its customers and cares about leaving the world a better place 11/10
Warm, light and surprisingly breathable
I've been really impressed with this fleece. I have worn it casually in the daytime, walking and for fast-paced trail running on cold days and it's been excellent. It breathes surprisingly well so you don't end up too clammy.
Wind resistance is reasonable, certainly not wind-proof but does provide some protection.
I found the cut a little loose and would have liked something slightly more fitted, particularly around the waist. For reference I'm a 188cm 72kg male wearing size medium. But it's not too bad, that's just me being picky really.
Overall, very impressed!
Owned one of these for a year exactly now. Wore it every day at work last winter, and while it does have holes and thread pulls in it. It has stood up to some serious abuse and is still wearable, if not a little dirty. At half the price of similar products on the market, i cant recommend it enough. Wish the sleeves were slightly longer but that' s it! Just bought a second one...
How good to find a fitted fleece which has arms long enough! Usually I end up lumbered with something which only needs poles to stand as a tent. Really comfortable, ideal post-run item. Recommended.
This fleece is spot on. The fit is great, no loose material around the cuffs and fits close, but not tight. The material is fairly dense and stretchy. Highly recommended.
Great bit of kit
Great fleece, material feels identical to powerstretch. Nice fit and the high collar feels very cosy.
Only improvements i'd like to see are thumb loops and a hooded version would be fantastic.
Overall absolutely unbeatable fleece for the price!
Firstly great value, sleeves are plenty long enough and could do with thumb loops. Its warm, smooth and semi windproof. Would like to see zips on the pockets.
Keep it away from cats
I purchased the Akita fleece in steel when alpkit had a sale on and was very pleased with it especially for the price i paid but unfortunately i had to return it as the chin guard kept getting caught in the zip. Alpkit sent me a new one after receiving my faulty one and it seems fine so far. The Akita doesn't have have a draft/wind guard behind the zip and the pockets don't have zips so i wouldn't call it a technical fleece more casual if anything but it is warm, comfortable and looks smart. The picture showing the fleece in steel and green also shows the zip toggle in red but mine is green but who cares
Lovely fleece, nice and comfy. Sizing guidelines were spot on for me. Great customer service too.
its a nice thin layering cheap jacket, its warm, nice fit, but it scuffs up really easily. First time I wore mine with a small rucksack with no sharp edges its pulled threads in a few places and now looks tatty!
