Silvertip was conceived for aggressive, powerful swimmers going long distances in cold waters… or for the rest of us, less proficient swimmers who just feel the cold more, it is a swimming suit that will get us out in the water when previously we would have headed for the cafe.

A fleece lined interior and thicker neoprene panels makes Silvertip our go to cold water swimming suit. Turn Silvertip inside out and you will see the fleece lined inner face that (a) makes it easier to pull on and off (b) traps more water close to the skin and prevents it from flowing around. Designed in collaboration with industry guru Dean Jackson,  Silvertip has been designed with year round adventurous open water swimming in mind.

Neoprene thicknesses has been carefully chosen to ensure a great swimming action while providing maximum temperature retention to increase time in the water. Thicker neoprene on the back and back of the leg also provide the extra buoyancy to help you on longer swims. Thinner neoprene is used under the arms, across the chest and lower leg for flexibility.

The result is a warmer suit without making it so thick that it becomes unwieldly to swim in.

As you propel yourself through the water drag is further reduced by the Glideskin neoprene. Making up the majority of the suits surface area it streamlines Silvertips movement through the water and give it excellent dirt and water repellency. Glideskin also reduces heat conduction from the body increasing warmth over standard neoprene.

The wrists, shoulders and neck feature flashes of silver for better visibility with a nylon skin covering the lower leg for durability in this high abrasion area.

Access to and from the suit is via a deep back zipper with lanyard to ensure you can get in and out by yourself.

Silvertip also comes in a Mens specific fit

Care Guidance

When you are pulling on your suit take care not to use your finger nails.
Check your suit for fit and range of motion. Your suit will feel different when wet.
Rinse your suit out with fresh water after each use.  Hang the wetsuit inside out and allow to dry away from direct sunlight or heat source.
Store your suit in a cool room on a wide plastic coat hanger.
Roll your suit when transporting rather than fold.
Don’t use petroleum products with your suit as this will damage the neoprene.
Small tears can be repaired with neoprene cement/glue.

Nice and toasty

I decided to start open water swimming in December (!) and wasn't going to do it without a wetsuit. This was my first and I decided on it after reading online reviews. It's great. I've been swimming in the docks in London and as long as I keep moving I'm quite warm even when the water's below 5 degrees. Max time so far at that temperature is 45 mins and it's been my hands and feet that have been cold (in slightly too large boots and gloves) not my body. The suit is easy to put on and take off. I'm 5'6 and 57kg and bought a large. It's a bit loose round the thighs and maybe very slightly too short in the body but otherwise a good fit.

Brilliant warm wetsuit

I got this suit at the start of the autumn, and have used for river swimming, and an end of year sea swim in Devon. I was warm as toast, even though I was just floating around, and getting brain freeze if my head went under - I will definitely get a warm swimming hat so my heads tolerance can match my bodies in this suit!

Got this in December, spent a week swimming about in a loch in the Scottish highlands over Christmas. Warm as toast. Even just bobbing about with the seals was warm enough. I like a bit of breast-stroke and found it fine and dandy for movement. Good buoyancy.
I’m 5”7, 64kg (70kg post Xmas) atheletic build - perhaps a little broader and musclier of shoulder than the average lady. No problems getting it on. It did feel “tight” at first, especially round the neck but this was all fine after the second swim.
Nice length on the ankles and wrists for gloves/boots.
Great wetsuit for the dosh. It’s been on and off half a dozen times and feel robust. Can’t fault it.

Great warm natural suit

Tried this out today in a pretty cold loch, then jumped in the car and tried it in the sea. Great in both and kept me warm inbetween. Felt a natual swim, no floaty feet. Also great customer service from Alpkit. Helped me choose the right size online and came quickly and well packaged. Thank you!

cold water swimming

Have used this wetsuit for swimming in Scottish lochs and never felt cold. Temperature was 16 and now 12. Body stays warm even when face is hurting. I have size large. Am UK clothes size 10-12, 5 ft 6 in, and 9 st.

Didn't feel chilly once!

So, this feels like I'm cheating slightly as technically I bought a small man’s wetsuit (I'm 5'6'' and 55kg and it seemed to fit me slightly better than a lady’s medium, but only slightly). I really wanted to provide a review of this product for any female swimmers out there that feel the cold. I had been training for the Sound of Mull swim, a 2.6km crossing across a busy shipping channel, complete with tides and currents! I have recently moved to Mull so the idea of swimming the ferry journey felt symbolic, however as the big day drew closer, I began to question why I had chosen this rather challenging event as my first open water swim! Training had been tough, mostly because I simply couldn't cope with the temperature (about 9-10 degrees C in fresh water). I had borrowed a friend's swimming wetsuit, which was a little old, but in its day, worth £800! I repeatedly got out of the water shaking like a leaf, unable to get changed as my limbs were barely functioning. I couldn't imagine staying in for longer, where 8 degrees was the best we could hope for in the Sound of Mull in May. I googled 'thermal swimming wetsuit' and to my surprise Alpkit popped up. Having been a big fan of other products (down jackets, dry bags, camping mats etc.) for many years, I had no doubt that they would have done a good job of developing a new line, but I was still skeptical about feeling remotely comfortable in 8 degrees! Well, on the 6th of May I swam the Sound of Mull in this suit and it was fantastic. I can honestly say, I didn't feel chilly once, not when I first entered the water, nor after I had been swimming for an hour. The buoyancy distribution is an absolute dream and provides superb body positioning in the water. The furry lining makes the suit appealing as well as much easier to get into and is extremely flexible and comfortable. Even at the end of the swim, when everyone else was shivering, I was not and I know it is not because I don't feel the cold, it's because of this lovely suit - thanks Alpkit! smile
