Open water swimming requires buoyancy, freedom of movement and insulation - a combination you just don't get in a standard wetsuit. Designed in collaboration with industry guru Dean Jackson, Lotic has been designed to meet these demands with open water and adventure swimming in mind.
Buoyancy helps the swimmer to move swiftly and efficiently through the water. We have calibrated the buoyancy levels in the Lotic to enhance the swimming experience. 3.5 mm at the back with 4 mm on the leg and butt to give extra lift in the lower body and put you in a better swimming position. This increases speed by reducing the frontal drag of the wetsuit and reduces leg fatigue so that you can swim further - but you don't need to remember all of that while you swim!
Freedom of movement, particularly in the shoulders, assists your stroke and reduces fatigue. 2 mm arm pit and 2.5 mm chest and shoulder panels give unrestricted upper body movement. 1.5 mm on the collar and cuffs aid fit and comfort whilst also preventing water flow through the suit.
As you propel yourself through the water drag is further reduced by the Glideskin neoprene. Making up the majority of the suits surface area it streamlines Lotics movement through the water and give it excellent dirt and water repellency. Glideskin also reduces heat conduction from the body increasing warmth over standard neoprene.
The wrists, ankles, shoulders and neck feature flashes of red for better visibility.
Access to and from the suit is via a deep back zipper with lanyard to ensure you can get in and out by yourself. A nylon skin covers the lower leg for durability at your entry and exit points
Lotic offers the best compromise between flexibility and buoyancy for swimmers regardless of ability.

When you are pulling on your suit take care not to use your finger nails.
Check your suit for fit and range of motion. Your suit will feel different when wet.
The neoprene collar and cuffs can be trimmed with scissors if they extend too far.
Rinse your suit out with fresh water after each use. Hang the wetsuit inside out and allow to dry away from direct sunlight or heat source.
Store your suit in a cool room on a wide plastic coat hanger.
Roll your suit when transporting rather than fold.
Don’t use petroleum products with your suit as this will damage the neoprene.
Small tears can be repaired with neoprene cement/glue.

I bought the Lotic wetsuit for wild swimming and not to compete. Most of my swimming is fresh water and therefore slightly colder than sea swimming. The Lotic is a great wetsuit. Firstly, the Alpkit size chart is accurate which is refreshing in this day and age! I am 182cm, 42', 33" chest and the L fits perfectly. It is buoyant to assist, but not hinder swimming and takes the strain out so you can enjoy your surroundings - a massive plus point for me. It is warm without becoming hot - if that makes sense. The quality and construction of the wetsuit is excellent and represents value for money. All in all I am a very happy customer. Lastly, Alpkit's Customer Service are excellent too - unlike Wiggle! If you are in the market for a wild swimming wetsuit look no further than this. I liked mine so much I have just bought my wife one to tempt her into the water too.
After trying other suits where the fit was not right I found that the HQ was near my home. Got it at sale price. I am 5ft 11in tall, 83kg, 34 waist and 42 chest. Fits really well, creates perfect temp in cold water, around 12c today. Can really feel buoyancy in the water and movement around arms and legs is smooth. Easy to take off, drys quickly after a hose down. Really pleased with, definitely recommend.
Excellent swim suit
I'm 5'6" and bought the small size. It's very snug, but goes on fairly easily when I get it wet first. very nicely buoyant and good range of movement when swimming. Makes being in the water a complete pleasure and much nicer than the surf suit I had before.
First Test of Lotic Wetsuit
Had first sea swim of 2018 today (050518). After initial dunk the wetsuit kept my body temperature at a good level. Flexibility didn't give any concerns. The cut around the neck I felt might rub but no. Happy with first test. The size chart put me as a large and this reflected as correct.
Size chart well out
The wetsuit feels really nice and I'm sure is great but I'm 6' tall, 41" chest and a 32" waist and the large is way too tight. Could just about zip it up and when I did I could hardly move my arms in it. The collar seemed really low too. So unfortunately had to send back without even getting in the water
Two Seam Fails
The first wetsuit split at pelvis seam in a few weeks. Got speedy replacement - good customer service. Replacement has now split in both armpits some twelve months later. Not impressed. Won't bother again.
Hi Mark, I am very sorry to hear that you have had an issue with a second Lotic - that is very unlucky indeed. I have sent you an email to see if we can get the suit back so we can help out. Many thanks, Ashleigh - Alpkit Customer Support Team
