Extreme Food has been developed by nutritional experts aiming to raise the bar for outdoor instant freeze-dried foods. Each meal has been fine tuned to enhance taste and well balanced nutrition whilst using high quality natural ingredients with no artificial colourings or preservatives.
Each meal has a fixed 500 kcal of energy, offering the highest energy availble on the market vs the lowest pack weight and volume. Meals taste as if they were just prepared. The process of freeze-drying means that the flavour remains unaltered; only moisture content is removed. This also means that the food maintains all its natural vitamin and mineral content.

A good tasty meal. just not enough
i bought the Sheppards pie and the bolognese.
i like good food and cooking myself. the sheppards pie was very good in taste, it had the campsite (and myself) drooling when i added the water. it was as good as it smelt. just don't add the full amount of water recommended.
the Bolognese was not as exciting to eat, it was ok in taste and it filled a hole. again. dont add all the water recommended. and also. its just not enough after a hard day
I reviewed before & gave 3 stars as it was so watery. Ive had chilli since & with less water was great (as was the rice pud!! Yummy). With this and a pitta bread youve got it made. So...Im back for more!
Only bought one packet in case it was no good but after some great reviews of this flavour it was a must for me.
Wow this had so much flavour and plenty there for a single night wild camp in North Wales. Knew I should of bought a pudding. Next time ..
My favourite is without doubt the Shepherds Pie which can be made with the exact amount of water specified. Other meals with rice need slightly less water. Good weight to energy value. I will once again be using on TGOC this year. Every other meal will be Shepherds Pie !!!
I disagree with the 2 star review. Seems to be based more on a lack of experience with dehydrated meals. Yes it can be tricky to get the right balance, buy the meals themselves are very good. I always add under what's recommended and to up if need be. This way you never fail. In the dehydrated world they have a nice advantage of being flat unlike mountain House or real turmat which sometimes comes in handy. If you want the best I'd go real turmat but you'll have problems finding them. These pouches are very decent.
Tasty but less water and more time needed
I took four of these packs on my recent Ridgeway walk for evening meals before bedding down. All needed less water than indicated, 300 ml would give a thick soup consistency which if you are slightly dehydrated after a long day is no bad thing. Luckily my pan has measurements on the side so about 200ml seemed to give best results. All were tasty but also required little more than the specified 6-8 mins to rehydrate, more like 10 mins but were still hot and as I said tasty.
I took the Mild Korma. Spag Bol, Beef curry and Moroccan chicken and Couscous?
I would buy these again, especially for a multi day trip where rations have to be carried with you.
Great taste, maybe add less water
I have tried the beef curry and chilli con carne. Both were very tasty and delivered plenty of calories. You need to add less water than suggested though. The first meal came out like a beef curry soup, so I poured it into a mug and it was absolutely fine. Hot food is hot food however wet it is! For the next meal, I added less water than recommended and the consistency was much better. Both tasted great though, and minimal weight in your pack. I shall buy some more for my next trip.
Too watery based on instructions
Used this in a mountain marathon. Me and my pal both used the specified amount of water. Mine the curry, his I think the spaghetti. Both very watery. Tasty but more like a soup. So was an anti climax! For the dessert added much less water and was better. Unsure where they get their quantities of water from!!?
Not sure about these!
They provide a lot of nutrition for very little weight but I had trouble getting a decent meal from them. Packaging can be a little misleading - there is a fill line on the back, way above 500ml but you never need to add that much water. On the front of the packet are the instructions and after adding 300ml of boiling water and leaving if for 8 minutes to rehydrate I was left with something resembling soup. I tried eyeballing one by adding less water. Still wasn't great.
Spaghetti Bolognese - although lightweight and easy to carry due to it being dehydrated this meal had no flavour whatsoever. It was actually like eating a bag of hot puke. After eating an hour later I was laying in the tent having a terrible time digesting this meal. I think from now on I will just bring my own fresh pasta as this meal was just terrible.
chicken and pesto
I would steer clear of this meal. I put the right amount of water in. The sauce was more like a thin soup. The chicken was absent and the portion was small after a hard days walking. If I could give it zero I would
