If you have a taste for adventure, want to be inspired and try something new the Big Shakeout is for you. It's a not-for-profit festival with all proceeds donated to the Alpkit Foundation.

Weekend tickets coming soon.

The Alpkit Foundation School of Adventure brings together some of the best instructors, guides and inspirationalists in one place with one aim: to inspire and educate in an amazing environment. The School of Adventure is about giving you the chance to try something completely new, learn the specific skills of a new discipline, or simply do more or do it better without committing to a whole weekend course. Many of the sessions won't teach everything but they will give a set of core skills to work on.

The Big Shakeout is located in the heart of the stunning Peak District and we hope you take the time to head off and enjoy it but if you just don't feel like striking out we will have plenty going on at the festival site. Come and visit the info hub, central to the Shakeout this is where you'll find our shop with our latest gear as well as some special Shakeout deals!! We will also have an exhibition of photos from all the expeditions, trips and adventures we have supported over the years.

We have made a real effort this year to bring a real festival feel to the event and the music will be starting a lot earlier so you can kick back and watch the sunset listening to some of the best live music in Derbyshire. With beers from Blue Monkey and Thornbridge Brewery throughout the festival and you won't find any ridiculous festival prices at the Big Shakeout.

We shall be offering free activities open to all included in the ticket price. Details to come soon. In the evenings hang up your rucksack and enjoy hearty cooked food, great beer, live music, lectures, fun and games. Talks, adventure films, live music, yummy food, crafts and more.

Back for 2018 is the Big Shakeout Talks programme: tales of adventure, expedition, and derring-do with award-winning swashbucklers and Alpkiteers. What campfire is complete without stories to share round it? Some of our favourite adventurers and Alpkiteers are generously giving up their time to join us at Big Shakeout tent, share and discuss their latest exploits, and answer an burning questions we have about their adventures.

The Big Shakeout elves are busy working on the Speaker programme for now, watch this space for a taster of what's to come!

Partnering up with our sister on demand adventure film, Steepedge, the Big Shakeout will feature some of the best films from the festival circuit this year. Bring your popcorn, your pizza, your strawberry bonbons (or whatever you need to enjoy a film really...) and tune into some inspirational, edge-of-your-seat, and downright hilarious films.

We'll be bringing your showreel details shortly - stay tuned!

Live music is the perfect accompaniment for a weekend of activity, here's a taste who will be bringing music to your ears at the Big Shakeout 2018

Music is the beating heart of the Big Shakeout Festival... and a great excuse for us all to let our hair down, bob our heads, and move our feet.

Our talent scouts are out searching for music that you just can't help dancing to (as well as music that you can sit back and relax to). Don't worry, we'll make sure you're the first to know when the line up goes live!

Good food and drink are worth savouring, enjoying, and sharing... (like the best adventures!) Check out what's on the menu at the Big Shakeout 2018.

As much as we love creating delicious culinary concoctions on our camping stoves, sometimes it's nice to give your stove the day off, hang up your rucksack and have a hearty hot meal made for you (preferably with a nice beer too!).

Free Tea and Coffee

At registration, we'll equip you with a Big Shakeout Mug that you can use to make the most of free tea and coffee all weekend. Hurrah for that!

The AlpKitchen

Chef Jamie and the team will be serving hot and cold breakfasts, lunches, drinks and snacks on Saturday and Sunday.

The Foundation Bar
