Smashed and still going strong

I have done things to these wheels. 450ish miles of road commuting, red grade mountain bike routes, cyclo-sportives, bunny hops, wheelies, boming around the peak District, loaded up bike parking. I have never done a thing, no maintenance at all, to make the happy. They take it and keep going. Light weight monsters.

Strong wheels

I've used a set of these for over 18 months of year round commuting and mixed off road stuff. They have held their shape despite some serious pothole bashing and the occasional trips down sets of steps. I have had to replace the bearings in both wheels, but I consider this normal wear and tear. I can see how the design of the rear will allow the freehub to move if the wheel is out of the frame and the skewer is removed, however I don't see this as a negative - it makes maintenance really easy and the freehub is locked in place once the wheel is in the frame.

Spokes break too often

For me these are not cheap wheels though I know you can spend a lot more
Bought this wheel set for a trip to France touring over the alps. While training. For this I found the front spokes loosened a lot then I broke two spokes in the rear wheel. I got the spokes fixed but then broke another two on the rear. I ended up buying a hope wheel during the trip and shipping this on back home ( expsensive) I sent the wheel set back to Alpkit who said there were no faults and surly fixed and tried FOC ( which was great ) I consigned these to spares and recently a turbo wheel. But another spoke has just gone while on the turbo after only 10km at a low wattage. Pretty fed up spending money on these hubs seem ok but I concur with freehub falling off. Maybe need to be more carefully built and a wee rethink on free hub

Flawed design for adventure use

I've only used these wheels a dozen or so times on my Camino Al. When taking the rear wheel out of my car the hub opened up and spewed the pawls onto a gravel car part. Cue a finger-tip search which turned up only 3 of the 4. Pretty crap design for something that is supposed to work in the back and beyond....
