Phud

Large bouldering mat, Phud may be our first boulder mat but it has already gained a strong following amongst UK boulderers. Substantial yet economical on your wallet.

Phud is our original bouldering mat and has already gained a strong following amongst UK boulderers. Phud is substantial yet economical on your wallet. Phud now comes with a new carrying strap making carrying your favourite bouldering mat even easier.

An absorbing story

The heart of the Phud boulder mat beats with the power of two layers of foam. The top layer is 20mm Cross-Linked Closed Cell Foam. This is the firmer of the two foams, it has the effect of distributing the impact of a fall accross the surface area of the mat for greater cushioning and reducing the chance of bottoming out. The second layer is both thicker and softer. 80mm (High Load Bearing) Open Cell Foam. This is where most of the cushioning takes place. It's all about the foam.

Aluminium buckles

boulder mat The aluminium buckles replace the original plastic buckles. As well as being more durable the quick release design makes opening and closing the mat quicker. An added bonus is that you do not have to keep picking grass out of the velcro.

Construction

Just like many other boulder mats Phud is a hinged design. It folds in half so that it is easier to carry and fit in your car. Of course this means that there is no foam along the fold, some companies make a chisselled mat so that the foam overlaps, Phud is not that sophisticated. If you want a continuous layer of foam check out Woomf.

Shape

Phud is a rectangle. No rounded corners, no chiselled edges, no bells, no whistles. When you carry it you will look like Mr Strong.

Modular

Isn't it annoying when things break and you never know how to replace them? Yeah we thought the same so should you ever need to replace parts of your boulder mat we sell the shell, foam buckles and straps seperately.

Phud care

We do not recommend substituting your bed with Phud. Prolonged pressure may reduce the potency of the foam, get a proper mattress from IKEA instead. It is innevitable that Phud will get dirty and wet. Occasionally airing your Phud when you get home instead of throwing him in the damp cellar is a fair reward in return for his service. Pulling apart the velcro flaps will help dry the foam. From time to time you may wish to wash the shell, you can do this with out removing the foam by scrubbing the outer with a stiff brush and soapy water. Open the velcro and let the mat air to dry. Be careful if you do remove the foam as we do not cover this as a warranty claim. Although solid once inside the shell once removed it can be surprisingly delicate.

Phud is to big!

If Phud is to big to fit into your car check out Woomf, he is smaller than Phud.
