Welcome to the Plastic Fantastic Alpkit Kayak Series 2008. A celebration of all boats PLASTIC!!
This year we'll be running five events throughout the year. We're also going to be updating the type of events we'll be running after feedback from the successful 2007 series.
We'll continue with the Sport & Expert Freestyle league competitions which were very well received. The Incubator Freestyle we are going to make a little more friendly with more focus on the coaching element. However we'll finish the coaching with a bit of light hearted competition.
We are adding a new format of event into the Freestyle portion of the weekend this year. The Old Gits Throwndown (name was suggested by the Old Gits not me!) Heats of paddlers will have a jam session on the main feature of the river trying to tick off the moves listed on the Incubator Variety sheet. Basically trying to impress the judges with style, flair and just plain cheesiness. Although aimed primarily at those paddlers who remember the good old days of Rodeo, this fun competition is open to anyone.
At all but one of the events we'll be running the Alpkit Boto-X series. This year we'll run either a four up head to head race or a timed race with must make obstacles and breakouts at each event. This style of event is really starting to take the paddling world by storm, easy to understand for spectators and paddlers alike. The Llangollen weekend will be a full weekend of Boto-X. Solo & team competitions as well so special events to spice things up a bit.
Last year you may have taken part in the Pyranha Speeder Challenge. This year Dagger have a new toy for 2008 called the Green, an all out river racing machine designed to win the Green Race over the pond. We'll be hosting a Dagger Green Challenge Series at every round of the Plastic Fantastic. (Full details still to be confirmed.)
To finish things off at every event we'll make sure we keep you fed and entertained at every event. If you have an idea, video launch, band etc that would be suitable for a paddling party drop me a line.
See you on the water, Jim.
