Handy Glove Guide

We like to keep our hands well-protected when we’re out on an adventure, so here’s our guide to which glove will meet your hand-protecting needs…

Liner/Fleece gloves

What? Midweight fleece liner glove

For… wearing on its own when you’re moving fast and light or doing high-output activities, or lining a shell glove in colder temperatures.

When and where? Year-round in the UK or abroad and there’s a chill in the air. We’ve worn them a lot on the UK fells.

Features:

  • Lightweight and stretchy fabric is super packable

  • Touch compatible index fingertip for using GPS or phones

  • Fabric: polyester fleece, 150 gsm

  • Weight (each): 25 g

Specta Pullover Mitt

What? Midweight fleece glove with windproof, water resistant pullover mitt

For… running when it’s blowing a hoolie out, when it’s raining cats and dogs, or when it’s just plain cold

When and where? Year-round in the UK or abroad, the samples have spent a lot of rainy and windy days with Buyer Dave on the Peak District fells and further afield.

  • Pullover windproof and water resistant mitt that stashes away on the back of the hand

  • Lightweight and stretchy fabric is super packable

  • Touch compatible index fingertip for using GPS or phones

  • Fabric: polyester fleece, 150 gsm; Pullover mitt: 100% Nylon, DWR coated

Aura and Aura Grip

What? Multi-purpose fleece glove – the Aura Grip has a silicon palm for extra grip

For… anything from local hillwalking and to layering under a shell glove in colder climates. Aura Grip gives you better purchase on poles, so they’re ideal for ski-touring, and trekking with poles.

When and where? Year-round in the UK and abroad, these are our most versatile style of glove.

Bike Gloves

What? Hardwearing and protective mountain biking gloves

For… a bit of comfort and protection when you’re riding all day at the trail centre, the kind of rough and technical terrain that takes its toll on your hands.

When and where? Year-round use on big natural trails on the mountains or for the bigger trail centres. To name a couple, we’ve taken them up Helvellyn and round Bike Park Wales…

  • Pre-curved trigger fingers for comfort and dexterity on the bars

  • Supple synthetic leather palm with zoned padding for comfort and grip

  • Silicon grip on the trigger fingers for better control

  • Vent holes in the palm for a bit of air flow

  • Hook and loop closure on the cuff

Comet gloves

 

What? Minimalist bike gloves, designed to be like a second skin (a grippier one)

For… better comfort and grip, with less ‘stuff’ between you and the handlebars so that you can feel more of your ride

When and where? Bikepacking trips, adventure biking, and xc trails… Think Sherwood pines, Thetford forest, the South Downs…

  • Thin and supple synthetic leather palm for good grip and feel

  • Stretchy back and low-profile cuff for better dexterity

  • Perforated palm and mesh backer for breathability

  • Fabric: Spandex; Palm: Perforated Nash Leather palm

What? Fingerless cycling mitt with palm padding where you need it

For… all-day comfort on the handlebars, long distances, big miles

When and where? Roads and bridleways in warmer conditions, the Alpine summertime, the Tuscany Trail, Torino-Nice

Mountain Gloves

What? Softshell glove with waterproof insert

For… waterproof protection without the bulk of a fully insulated glove; activities where you want to retain your dexterity: alpine climbing and skiing, mixed climbing, rainy, cold days closer to home.

When and where? Year-round use, whether you’re talking summer in the Alps or fast and light winter walk-ins up in Scotland.

  • Waterproof Porelle insert to keep your hands dry in snow or rain

  • Supple goatskin leather palm for grip and dexterity

  • Super comfy, high-wicking, and breathable Bemberg lining

  • Pre-curved fingers for dexterity (no fumbling with buckles!)

  • Fabric: Shell: 82 % Polyester, 8% Spandex; Lining: 100% Polyester; Palm 0.7mm Goatskin Leather; Waterproof insert: Porelle Dry Microporous PU membrane
