  • Groupset: SRAM Rival 1
  • Wheels: Love Mud Orbit

Santiago knows its heritage; cold-worked, air hardened steel is steeped in the history of long distance riding. But with bang up-to-date geometry, Santiago has a refreshing feel that you know will be good for years to come: 450 mm chainstays, 1.1 m wheelbase, 71 degree head angle, a fork rake of 55 and generous tyre clearance. This makes for a truly comfortable, fast, assured bike, both in its own right (audax slaying, winter riding) or when racked up for multi-month adventures.

Rival1 is a single ring 40 chainset with 11 – 42 in the back; giving you the feel and versatility of Rival with the simplicity of 1x gearing. With a minimum gear ratio of 0.95:1; it’s a pretty handy climber too.

Reynolds 631 steel tubing

Durable, smooth and assured on those multi-month trips Reynolds 631 steel is an excellent material for round-the-world touring where you’re completely dependent on your bike. We’d be surprised if you needed to get your frame repaired, but it’s comforting to know that finding a steel welder in the middle of nowhere is far easier than getting your alloy frame repaired.

Traditional bike, contemporary geometry

Santiago’s takes classic road bike geometry as a starting point, with a longer wheelbase and higher stack height for a more comfortable riding position and assured ride, whether you’re travelling light or fully loaded up.

Generous tyre clearance

Clearance for up to 650b x 47 mm or 700c x 37 mm tyres that make your ride more comfortable and give better grip on the bitumen as you corner.

Full traditional mounts

With full rack and guard mountains, 3 sets of bottle cage bosses and extra cage mounts on the fork, Santiago can handle being fully loaded up.

Frame spec

Durable, comfortable, Reynolds steel frame.

Weight (kg): 3.5kg frame and fork or 12kg fully built
Reynolds 631 steel, cold worked, air hardened seat tube, top tube and down tube
Chromoly fork and read frame
68 mm BSA threaded BB
Straight headtube (EC34) to fit 1 1/8” fork
100 mm front, 135 mm rear QR dropouts
Standard 160 mm post mount disc brakes
Full rack/guard mounts
Tyre clearance for 700 x 37 mm, 650b x 47 mm tyres

Generally we recommend:

Riders between 5ft 2in and 5ft 7in
Riders between 5ft 6in and 5ft 10in
Riders between 5ft 9in and 6ft 2in
Riders 6ft 2in and over

You can also take into consideration the standover height to ensure you pick a bike that will be a good fit. If you measure your inside leg and ensure there is a minimum of an inch from the toptube to your crotch this will give you enough seatpost adjustment to find your optimum saddle height.

Change for the better.

I am getting on in years now and have been riding road and Time Trials in my younger days. finding the roads around North Bucks and further afield too soul destroying I abandoned my 3 year old carbon road bike in the shed and rode a steel touring bike. So after chatting to the Alpkit staff I bought this single chainring Santiago, even foregoing a test ride as the geometry and spec looked good. 700c and 32mm tyres my choice. What a revelation, back to really enjoying my riding. Smoothes a lot of the road buzz and so comfortable. Handles well and encourages me to push hard when my body is up for it. Cannot beat steel on rubbish roads.
My only regret is that I didn't find this bike earlier.
I love this bike, I do love this bike. I chose single chain ring model because i didn't want to compromise my toring bike, didn't want to find it might be better.
Thanks for all your help.
