Camino Al is built for those moments when the road turns into trail and the bridleway drops off into single track. Spritely and comfortable on the tarmac with enough in reserve to explore off-road trails, it transforms your riding experience and turns dead ends into possibilities.Infused with DNA from cyclocross, gravel, and adventure race bikes, the Camino’s relaxed geometry was designed for long day comfort, with a longer wheelbase, slacker head angle and lengthened headtube for a more natural riding position.A low bottom bracket and short chainstays make it agile through the corners whilst the slackened head angle inspires confidence when descending. The aluminium frame is tough enough to take a knock or two, so you can lose yourself in the journey and push the technical envelope of your travel or even your commute.Effortlessly adaptable, the Camino is as proficient on your local trail as it is on the open road, with tyre clearance up to 700c x 40 mm or 650b x 47mm for that added traction and comfort on bumpier terrain. Responsive and exhilarating even when loaded up with luggage; rack, bottle cage and mud guard mounts give you the option to pack up and pedal off on a self-supported ride whenever the feeling takes you.
Using tried and tested technology, the lighter SRAM Rival1 groupset offers smooth shifting, a useable range of gears, powerful disc brakes and secure chain retention. X-Sync tooth profile provides a more secure engagement between the chain and chainring, whilst the X-Horizon rear derailleur with Roller Bearing Clutch keeps the chain taught to avoid chain flap over bumpy terrain. Firm, powerful and well-modulated hydraulic disc brakes are reliable across the terrains and conditions.
The 1 x 11 gearing, with a whopping 11 – 42t cassette, offers a gear range that is wide enough to cope with any terrain, opening up the alpine passes to mere mortals with enough at the top end to cruise up on the flat.

Fast and responsive even when loaded up. With a lightweight aluminium frame, carbon forks, long wheel base and an extended head tube, the geometry promotes an upright riding position for all-day riding comfort.
External cable routing facilitates maintenance when you haven’t got access to a full workshop; cables are fully housed to keep your machinery running smoothly in all conditions.
Big tyre clearance for tackling mixed terrains: up to 650b x 47 mm or 700c x 40 mm
Powerful and firm braking
Well-modulated seatstay mounted hydraulic disk brakes will help to bring you to a halt and reduce the risk of wheel lock when that elk appears out of nowhere.
Lightweight, strong and responsive with an alloy steerer; kitted out with mudguard mounts which accommodate racks for lightweight loads
Opt for the modern ultra-light bikepacking luggage or load up with panniers on the rear rack mounts.
Lightweight, durable and strong aluminium frame.

You can also take into consideration the standover height to ensure you pick a bike that will be a good fit. If you measure your inside leg and ensure there is a minimum of an inch from the toptube to your crotch this will give you enough seatpost adjustment to find your optimum saddle height.

I have now had my Camino (Rival 1) for 3 months and over 800 miles of riding and have hardly touched either my road bike or mountain bike since getting it!
It has proved to be everything that I had hoped for - comfortable, good on road and off, well built and equipped and looks great in the Tarmac colour.
I have tested it on Peak District trails and local roads and found the gearing is just right (good climbing and high enough to cruise at speed on tarmac).
Buying the bike was easy and I had some very good advice on tyre pressures etc from your bike man.
A couple of small niggles. The tyres seem to attract sharp objects and I have had a number of punctures (maybe just bad luck) and the paint seems to be a bit easy to chip - I have a couple of dings already.
All in all a fantastic bike at the price. Can't wait to do some touring in the Spring
Three parts to this...
I have a brilliant tarmac miles muncher set up for touring and an excellent, though heavy 29” MTB. After months of research and as a loyal Alpkit customer I ordered a Camino Al with some small mods. The overall built weight, simplicity and value for money were big pulls, the ability to tweak the order swung it. Flat bars (Confucius)...I planned to lop them a little.....700 rims with tubeless 38mm tyres, clip in pedals, nice grips and quick release axles, please.
How? Nice interactions with the building team, lots of gentle advice, fitting by email and a final delivered price which represented ridiculously good value. Could you deliver it to the Ambleside shop, please? Sure, no probs. Painless.
What? A glorious, distinctive looking bike in gleaming ‘tarmac’ (actually a hard to describe green-grey), that fitted perfectly. Great attention from the Ambleside Staff. Added a black frame bag and saddle bag to complete the ensemble. Staff took photos it looked so cool.
First serious run out as shake down was 30km around Grizedale. What a bike!...light, fast and very comfortable..I stabbed at 50psi front and back as I am 95kg. Which seemed about right. Just a few stops to get all the angles right for brakes, gear changer, saddle etc but we sizzled along. 30km averaging 13kph 700m ascent. Stunning.
Entirely impressed by it all. Well done Sonder!
Sonder Camino Al
I own loads of bikes; long travel all mountain, trail bike, hybrid and carbon road bike etc but the Camino is the most fun bike I've ever had! It feels amazingly stable (dead easy to do no-handers for miles), really responsive, grounded on the rough stuff and pretty darn fast on the road. I just absolutely adore my Camino! My partner has a different type of gravel bike, and I feel a bit sorry for him because his is a bit pants compared to my beauty.
