We treat all our waterproofs with PFOA-free DWRs, cutting out some pretty nasty chemicals. Unlike our insulation and sleeping bag ranges, our waterproofs are not yet PFC-free. We’re still looking for a PFC-free DWR that’ll provide the same long-lasting performance for waterproofs, but we are working on it!
We make gear you’ll love for longer: gear that lasts; gear you’ll use, repair, re-use and pass onto someone else when you’ve finished with it. That’s why all our products have a three-year Alpine Bond warranty as minimum. We’ve always thought that the most environmentally friendly product we can make is the one that gets used the most and lasts the longest. So that’s what we do - it’s pretty simple really.
Product Care Information
The better you look after these trousers, the better (and longer) they’ll look after you. Well, when we say ‘look after you’... they’re not gonna make you cups of tea or bring you breakfast in bed, but they will keep you nice n’ dry. And the good news is: it’s dead easy to do.
1) After you’ve finished going nice places and doing good things, treat your trousers to a wash at 30°C with either a dedicated Tech Wash (like Grangers and Nikwax) or pure soap. This keeps your trousers breathable by stopping the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating from getting clogged up with dirt and skin oils. No one likes sweaty, clammy waterproof trousers.
2) If they’ve stopped beading (rain soaking in rather than forming droplets), you can reactivate the factory-applied DWR by sticking them in the tumble drier on a low setting or applying a cool iron to them (under a tea towel).
3) To keep your trousers beading, you’ll probably need to top up the DWR once or twice a year using a Grangers or Nikwax re-proofer. You can find out more about why this is important here.
If you’re still a bit unsure about washing your trousers, you can also take it/send it to our Ambleside store’s waterproof washing service and we’ll sort it all out for you.

These lasted eight hours in torrential rain
I’d has these for a year and never used them. I found them tucked in a draw a few weeks ago, it was pouring outside so I thought why not give them ago. Eight hours and 50 miles on a bike in torrential rain and I was still dry underneath
Will be using these on my uk cycling tour next year
Amazing fit, style and fabric
I love these trousers the fabric is amazing, it's really lightweight, has a nice finish and the fit is perfect.
They look really flattering and not at all like you are wearing waterproof trousers.
They pack down super small and come with a handy mesh bag to store them in.
The price is also great. I would recommend these to anyone and I would buy again.
Thank's Alpkit, great job
By far the best I’ve had....
Love these waterproof trousers. So soft and comfortable, you forget you are wearing them , unlike others which crackle and pop every time you move. Performance outstanding. Definitely recommend these. Also amazing price.
Worn these all day and hardly notice them. Light, soft and quiet.
Beware the men's sizes are a tad small
I've worn these in blizzards, gales and prolonged torrential rain and they've always been 100% reliable and comfortable. They are so light and quiet you wouldn't know you're wearing them except for the fact that you're toasty warm and bone dry in the worst of conditions. Yes, the side zips could be slightly longer but totally forgivable at this price and level of performance.
Does the Job
Nice fit, very light and compact and I'm not sweaty when I'm pedalling and it's raining
Light, good fit and breathable
I love these. They live in my handbag/ day pack because they're small and light enough to carry around with me all the time. They're so quiet, comfortable and breathable that you can forget you're wearing waterproofs and the neat cut means they aren't flappy. They've kept me bone dry so far and I haven't overheated either. Highly recommended.
So far they've held up to everything from DofE expeditions to munro bagging in the pouring rain.
They're the best fit I've had in outdoor trousers in a long time. very light weight and tiny pack size compared to previous waterproof trousers. Would definitely recommend!
I really like the cut of these trousers, there is no excess materiel around the legs to flap in the wind - no more CoCo the Clown. They are lightweight, non-rustly and slightly stretchy. Rain hasn't penetrated yet and I hope they're hard wearing, time will tell. The only negative is zip length. The zips go up to the knees but this is not long enough to get them over boots. Otherwise the best pair of waterproof overtrousers I have bought.
Great if you have them on all day
These trousers are a lovely cut, they are light and feel nice when you're walking in them, you don't overheat. But...I can't get them on over my boots. The zip needs to be another inch or two longer, or better yet...full length. If I start out the day with them on it's perfect but if it starts raining and I have to put them on, it's a total faff taking my boots off and trying not to get soaked. Love alpkit gear and will continue to use these, they're just not 100%
Would be perfect except.....
Totally agree these are very, very, good waterproof trousers, good fit, 100% waterproof - I've now used them many times in all sorts of rain
But, Alpkit you've let yourselves down on this one..... the zip is just not long enough, who the heck wants to have to take off their walking boots, balance on one leg, usually holding onto the nearest rock/tree/person/dog whilst the rain is threatening to soak your legs, and feet too boot, before you can even struggle get these on?
Why do this? Love Alpkit used you for many years and many products... you just got this wrong. Hope you can make a bit of a design change and then the whole family will buy them.
Still love you mind Keep up the great work! xxx
No use for cycling
Bit dissapointed in these, as even after 10 minutes of cycling I am wet across the bum from road spray.
As I bought these primarily for cycling, snowBoarding and guide camp where I will be in contact with wet surfaces they arnt suitable for me.
