We love the Lake District. We love climbing its wild buttresses, scrambling up exposed ridges to its summits, and hiking back down again away from the beaten track.

Through this guidebook, Lake District mountaineer and author, Steve Goodwin, invites us on 20 big days out in the mountains which combine everything that we love about Lakeland and satisfy our natural need to explore all those valleys that we gaze at from the Cumbrian Way.

Each circular route runs from the valley floor to mountain top, with the ascent - and often the descent - made via a classic scramble or climb. Classic and lesser-known scrambles at grades 1 - 3+ tackle ghylls, ridges and crags, whereas climbs up to Severe include some of the best loved easy routes in the Lake District. In between the climbs and scrambles you’ll explore valleys like Wasdale and Deepdale, and reach the high tops of Scafell and Blencathra.

Routes feature Ordnance Survey 1:25 000 map, photo topos, and easy-to-follow directions, along with route profiles and local information. Also included is a detailed appendix, to endure that you have a fun and successful day out.
