You can be dressed head to toe in enough technical gear to feasibly pass as an International Mountain Leader, but there’s no disguising the misery of cold, damp and clammy cotton pants.
The Kepler Briefs are a breathable, wicking and odour-resistant heaven for your nether regions. An active cut, flat-lock seams and a high, low-profile waistband fit comfortably underneath layers. We also use exceptionally soft superfine (17.5 micron) merino from Australian non-mulesing farms – for happy bums and happy sheep.
Wool is a highly breathable material, transporting your body’s moisture vapour outside without feeling wet to the touch. As an ‘active fibre’, it also responds to temperature changes, keeping your bottom toasty in Scottish winter and cool and dry for running in the height of summer.
Wool is naturally odour resistant which means you get more uses out of your undies before consigning them to the wash bin and makes them ideal for multi-day backpacking trips - kinder on the planet and anyone you’re sharing a tent with!
We’ve used Core Spun merino for underwear, a technology with all the benefits of merino but with added durability. It’s still merino on the outside but a nylon and spandex core produces a yarn that’s harder wearing and rebounds back into shape better than 100% merino.
- Merino core spun with nylon and spandex improves fabric durability, recovery and stretch whilst retaining all the benefits of merino wool
- Wool is highly breathable, naturally absorbing water vapour into the internal structure of the fibres before evaporating it, wicking away liquid sweat when needed
- High warmth to weight ratio of superfine merino plus natural temperature regulation properties
- Wool is naturally odour resistant allowing you to wash it less frequently
- High, wide waistband and low-profile flat-lock seams are comfortable under layers

Product Care Information
The better you look after this merino garment, the better it will look after you. Give your Kepler a long, happy life with these tips:
Hand wash your merino in lukewarm water, or gentle machine wash at 30°C.
Darn any holes as soon as possible so they don’t grow.
Avoid snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through the fabric, and hungry moths.

Alpkit's wooly banana hammock is a great alternative to boxers, which I find almost always too warm and/or annoying.
Look and feel pretty much like yer standard soft poly undies, nice high wide waistband.
Alpkit's shreddies are a cut above the rest. Fit, material and function on par with the other Kepler merino kit. I tend to overheat in boxer shorts and trunks, so good to have these available as briefs.
Nice material, not an ideal fit
I am 31-32 in waist fit normally, but find the medium a bit loose, not just the sizing, but the leg 'elastic' does not seem to keep them in place very well, so as another reviewer found, they tend to ride up a bit to where you don't want them to go! They are a bit skimpy round the bum cheeks too, hence, if I dropped a size I think the fit would actually be worse. Next will be trying some Runderwear.
Size small are fine on the waist, but very loose round the legs - to the point where I “fall out the side!”. Tried EDZ and Icebreaker Merino briefs - both a better fit than these, but still nothing as good as the Paramo (non-Merino) briefs which they’ve just stopped making!
Not great fit
They are not snug fitting, and would not buy again, think due to merino wool material and the cut/design are a bit weird.
more material needed
I bought a pair of these for a trip to Nepal at the end of the year, after hearing good things about merino wool such as being odour resistant. My waist is between 30" and 32" so based on the size guiding I opted for a medium. The material seems good but unfortunately the size doesn't work for me. I felt that when I put them on they gave me a bit of a wedgie and I wish there was just a bit more material to cover my backside. As expected, because they don't fit well after putting them on, I found when I walk they ride up and become really uncomfortable. This may just be something where the size may or may not fit you depending on body type. Maybe the boxer version will prevent this issue.
