When the spring sun disappears behind the cloud, you descend in a valley, or it’s just real chilly… The Filoment is an ideal versatile and lightweight addition to your layering system.
Filoment is designed to keep you warm and snug whether moving fast and light or layering up against the cold. An active cut, with longer back and articulated arms, makes it ideal for active use.
Horizontal micro-baffles prevent cold spots caused by down migration, whilst an insulated zip baffle and chin guard shuts out pesky draughts. Soft hand-warmer pockets keep your fingers toasty, the insulated hood warms your noggin, and the zipped chest pocket keeps essentials safe.
We make our down jackets to last with Nikwax Hydrophobic down. Filoment’s durable polyester outer is DWR coated, helping to shed moisture.
With a compact packed-size, Filoment stows away easily and lofts effortlessly.
NIKWAX HYDROPHOBIC DOWN
Nikwax Hydrophobic is a water repellent treatment that makes down less susceptible to humid conditions, staying lofted for longer and prolonging the overall lifespan of your down.
RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD
We use only RDS certified down; all our down is audited by a third party to ensure that it comes from birds who are not live-plucked, force-fed, or mistreated. That’s good know.

Product Care Information
You can and should wash this garment, most active outdoor folk do this once or twice a year.
Washing and re-waterproofing flushes out the dirt and oils that have accumulated so that it puffs up nicely and works better in damp conditions
Don’t panic! Down is surprisingly durable and washing is not an onerous task. You can wash it in a front loading washing machine with these instructions…

Just what you need!
I've had my down jacket now for over a year. Due to its size and thickness (amount of down...) It is great for all seasons. I wear it just about everywhere. I love it.
It's great under a soft or hard shell to keep you warm. Whether it's heading to a race in the winter months or strolling around town, the jacket is spot on. Very versatile!
One year on, and my Filoment is holding up nicely. I paid £99 for it, and it has proved to be excellent value for money.
I run quite warm on the hill, so don’t usually need any extra insulation until I stop for a cuppa. To this end, I bought the Filoment plus a 1 litre drybag to carry in my pack until required. It is impressive how much warmth can be stuffed down into such a small space!
The Filoment has also proved to be an excellent companion on the bus ride into work. Throughout the winter, early spring and late autumn it generally provided enough warmth at the bus stop, but not too much when on the bus or dashing to make a connection. Also, of course, it packs down nice and small if I don’t need it on the way home.
I tend to treat this jacket as a midlayer, and always pop on a shell if it is raining.
The Filoment has had a lot of wear over the last year, and is still in good condition. It does loose a bit of down, but nothing drastic. One thing that I noticed at first was that it (the feathers?) could smell a bit musty. The jacket had a good wash and tumble dry in the summer, and the smell has not reappeared since.
I’m debating whether to give the Filoment 4 points or 5. It is not perfect, for example compared to a friend’s Rab some of the finishing is a bit rough. However, it was significantly cheaper than the Rab, and in terms of fit and function I have no complaints. Also, the down is hydrophobic and RDS, which is nice. 5 points it is then!
On another note, I’ve been buying from Alpkit for many years, and have read many comments about their excellent customer service. I had my first contact with the customer service department in the summer (regarding another item) and they really did go above and beyond. Absolutely marvellous!
Great as a jacket and a pillow!
I bought this jacket and the Rab Microlight in order to compare them. The Rab was slightly better finished but the Alpkit was a better fit under arms and across chest. Great product from a great company. (I kept the Alpkit and returned the Rab)
Ice ice ready
Was momentarily disappointed by the lightness and thinness of this jacket ( I didn’t think it would be up to much) but I needn’t have worried. Highly packable, I took this to Iceland in January where with temperatures just below freezing and biting wind this jacket kept me lovely and warm. Below freezing you will need a base layer and a micro fleece top or similar underneath but the wind proof nature of this jacket and resistance to light showers meant not needing a waterproof shell. Packs down really small when not needed (I’ve found a three litre mesh bag is great and then squashed down further if needed). Also looks great around town. Quite simply the most versatile jacket I’ve ever owned, now I’m ready for anything.
Just took delivery of my new Filoment Jacket and chuffed to bits with it. Super warm and extremely light.
Very packable and warm jacket!
Recently purchased this jacket for £99. It packs into a 1L bag and it's very warm! I have been wearing it for a few days at sub-zero temperatures and it's really nice.
Alpkit filoment hoody
Very happy customer, wore it for the first time today.. It was 0°c with a wind chill of - 12...absolutely fantastic performance from a very reasonable priced jacket.
Lightweight, warm, amazing.
When this arrived, I was a little disappointed as it isn’t as bulky as it looked in the photos. This was supposed to be an upgrade from a decathlon item, and believe me it is.
Wearing it today and the wind is bitingly cold, not had to tighten the toggles up round the hem. Really windproof, and warm. Started to “overheat” with the hood up. Not stood still in this jacket for long, so can’t quote idle heat rating, but walking and moving around this jacket is the right balance I was looking for, comfort.
This is my second bit of kit from Alpkit, and I’m ever falling more in love with their gear!! Keep up the good work.
Great Down Jacket
fantastic jacket , bought for a bargain £99 - I'm 6'1" with a 46 in chest and the XL fits me perfectly - I also tried/considered the Arcteryx Ceruim LT but that was more than double the price and the Rab Microlight which was £50+ more - very happy so far and am wearing it today in the snow with temperatues below freezing and am nice and toasty - looks great both around town and out on the hills
Ok so I was looking for a micro down jacket , looked at then all and this is far the best , keeps you nice and warm feels and looks great and more important it covers your lower back ! How many jackets of this type are short leaving your lower back exposed ? Brilliant jacket !
A warmth machine
Picked one of these up in the Spring sale. Have been using a Synoment (ne: Heiko) jacket since early 2015 which has easily been my most used piece of kit due to its versatility. I wanted something warmer with a hood that would be just as versatile. I'm 5'8" with 43" chest and broad shouldered and the size Large fits me perfectly.
It had its first outing in early May. Standing on the summit of Ben Ledi in freezing conditions I was toasty warm with the hoody thrown over my baselayer and windproof. It's much warmer than the Synoment jacket. The hood could possibly do with some simple volume adjustment but its no big deal.
I chose the Reef colour as its bold and bright and it looks great.
