The Faro shorts are a super stretchy softshell short (try saying that quickly!). Ideal for active pursuits, when trousers would just get in the way, but you still need a technical feature set to see you through.
Whether you’re out on the bike, trekking through the Alps or enjoying some hot rock climbing somewhere exotic, the Faro fit the bill. Cut just above the knee, the high UPF fabric will prevent sun burnt thighs from ruining your day out, and the fabric stretch will let you move pretty much any way your body will let you!
There are plenty of pockets to stash your stuff. On the front - 2 YKK zipped hand pockets, one of which has a clip loop sewn in. On the thigh a zipped pocket with an internal pocket (fits iPhone). On the rear there is another zipped pocket.
Inside leg 10"

The shorts I have been looking for all my life.
I’d been searching for some mountain biking shorts for a couple of years. I didn’t want the really technical looking ones made by some big cycling brands that are adorned with lots of Velcro and buckles and are made of starchy materials. These are soft yet technical and don’t have unnecessary fastenings. The pockets and flies work a dream.
I’ve been wearing them every single day on a 5 month bikepacking trip of Central Asia and the Caucasus. They work well in hot weather and also pair up nicely with leg warmers in cold weather, I’ve used them several times in snow without any complaints. No signs of wear yet.
One thing to add though- I would suggest alpkit consider relabelling the colour as they are more of a dark grey than a black. This nearly put me off ordering. Keep on making amazing stuff that works, thanks Alpkit.

Great pair of shorts
I wore these shorts almost every day from buying then in July 2017 until the end of October - 2 weeks of summer walking in the Alps, and then for cycling (on top of Rhythm shorts). Well designed - good fit, sensible and useful pockets (all with zips), very comfy fleecy-lined waistband. Really well made, and excellent fabric - nicely stretchy and sufficiently water-repellant to shrug off a shower. In summary - best pair of shorts I have ever owned, and I was glad when 2018 warmed up sufficiently for me to start wearing them again.
