The Climbing Unit SBS Round 2.

Dan sums up round 2 of the 2014 summer bouldering series

Friday 13th saw the second round of The Climbing Unit’s summer bouldering series. Despite the hot, sweaty weather and the fear of getting mauled by Fred Krueger, it was a good turnout (probably due to the free ale from Derby Brewing Company and free Haribo).

Greeting the competitors was 30 amazing problems from easy to not quite that easy. Like most competitions there was a strong junior presence, also the legends category seems to be getting more popular. The big surprise of the night was Old Cheese (Neil Amos) giving the young guns a run for their money and not only winning the vets but coming joint first with the Ambassador with the highest score in the competition, proving there’s still fight in the old dog yet.

A really fun time was had with encouragement and banter flying all over the place as were the awesome prizes donated by Alpkit. With two more rounds left there is no knowing who’s going to win the best of three rounds and take the title of king/queen of the Unit. And what better way to finish the night than chilling on the mats with old friends and new ones you met not two hours earlier and a cold beer brewed not 20 feet away.

Check out the full results. Next round 18th July.
