Our friend Lynn Robinson has sent us through some blurb about this years Stanage climbing festival.

The BMC is 70 years old in 2014, and as part of their birthday celebrations they are hosting a festival of climbing and walking at Stanage on the weekend of 28-29 June. There will be a BMC tent with a free barbeque in the Plantation car park from 4 - 6.30pm on Saturday 28. 9a sport climber and gritstone new-router Jordan Buys will be delivering a free lecture at the Outside Cafe in Hathersage from 7.30pm on the Saturday evening. Tickets will be available on the day on a first come-first served basis from the BMC tent at the Stanage plantation car park. Pete Whittaker, Katherine Schirrmacher and Naomi Buys will deliver masterclasses on Saturday 28. Thornbridge Outdoors will also be running an outdoor climbing day for 14-17 year olds. All classes cost a bargainous £10 (that's their word not ours!), and can be booked on the BMC website. Local experts have put together a points based climbing challenge to aim you in the direction of some of Stanage’s more esoteric gems.

With a handicap points system making sure that you can't cheat your way to victory by being good at climbing, the prizes kindly donated by Wild Country are there for the taking. Join BMC hill walking officer Carey Davies for an exploration of the Peak's moors and gritstone edges on Saturday 28, heading out from the plantation car park and returning in time for a well-deserved burger and beer. Peak District National Park rangers will also be leading a guided walk on Sunday 29, exploring the history of climbing along the areas gritstone edges. More information about these walks can be found on the BMC Website
