**Winners announced!**

The winners have been announced for our Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon entry competition! Steve and Jess have won £500 worth of AK voucheres to get themselves kitted out for the event, and they'll  will be joining the Alpkit team this weekend up in the Lake District!

Meet Steve and Jess

This will actually be our second Saunders together as we took part in the Beda Fell Class last year when Jess was 14. Feeling confident, we've gone up a couple of classes to the Wansfell Class.

We are both keen navigators and local to the Saunder's Marathon as members of West Cumberland Orienteering Club. Jess is keen to navigate this one - the maps and scale will be different from the usual orienteering maps but she's up for it! Jess took a bronze medal at the British Night Orienteering Championships in The Lakes last year so she's no stranger to a map and compass.

Last year I got a few tellings off as I began to stride ahead as we neared the controls. This year a feel a role reversal coming on - 47 year old knees can't compete with a fifteen year old.

**Runners up!**

With so many great entries, we struggled to settle on just one winner, so the kind folks at SLMM agreed to give us another entry as a runner up prize! Derek and Mark have won themselves a place on team Alpkit for the weekend along with a lightweight Gravitas waterproof to help get the kit together ready for the Lake District race this weekend!

Meet Derek and Mark

Mark and I are both aspirant mountain leaders looking for challenges to develop our skills, the SLMM is a perfect fit.

We know each other from my last teaching job where he helped me out running the DofE. We're both aspiring ML's so the SLMM seemed like a good idea for some navigation practice and a bit of a challenge! I have been eager to get into mountain mrathons for a while, so entered to perhaps let fate take its course! Entering seemed like a good idea at the time!!

Ultimately we want to encourage the next generation to go nice places, do good things!

Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon is a 2-day mountain navigation competition (or race) held annually in the Lake District. Now in its 40th year, it’s a classic event on the fell running calendar.

Taking place in the summertime, with multiple courses at varying difficult levels on offer, SLMM makes the ideal mountain marathon for fresh first timers and experienced fell runners alike. The AK team includes representatives from both camps, so we invited two more people to join us to compete in either the Harter Fell or Wansfell class. These classes are ideal for first timer mountain marathoners as no previous mountain marathon experience is required – just good hill and navigational skills.

***Competition now closed***

Not only will the competition winners get a pairs entry into either the Bedafell or Wansfell class, but you’ll win £500 worth of AK vouchers between you to get yourselves kitted out for the event. Plus (as if that wasn't enough), you'll also be an honorary member of team Alpkit! This means that you'll be added to our SLMM AK Team profile page (coming soon) and we'll supply you with a pre-booked drink at the over night stop. We'll share all our insider training tips with you, give you all the gear advice you could ask for and you'll even be able to write your very own Daring Deed after the event to be published live on the Alpkit website!

Please make sure that you are available for the race dates of 30th June - 1st July!
