Rich and Tom have set off on the trail and are half way

Rich and Tom Highland Trail 550

Rich and Tom Seipp have set themselves some challenges in the next couple of years, from competing in the Strathpuffer 24 hour bike event, to longer trails and a really long ride in 2016!

No ordinary team, Tom (10) and his dad Rich have been riding in events all over the country from cyclocross to bikepacking and everything in between. Alpkit have teamed up with the pair after finding Tom's enthusiasm contagious, supporting them with some kit we hope to help them achieve their targets.

This past week (May 22nd) the pair set off on the Highland Trail 550 - Rich had taken part in the Highland Trail last year, commenting;

"The route devised by Alan Goldsmith, starts at Tyndrum and visits the Mamores, Corrieyairack, Oykel Bridge, Assynt, Foinaven, Glen Canisp, Torridon, Kintail and Glen Affric, before returning to Tyndrum.

The terrain is varied, but can overall be described as tough. There are extended sections where pushing or carrying the bike is the only option. The rewards though are some magnificent riding on deserted and varied trails."

Finding it a challenge on day 5 he was considering retiring and thought to himself - "What would mini pips do in this situation?" - this year they are going to find out. They have spent quite a lot of time preparing for the trail, they posted a blog post just before setting off;

Highland Trail 550 Preparations

The team set off a day before the faster riders, hoping to finish within 10 days and we have been keeping an eye on their location on Trackleader (Rich & Tom Seipp) having reached half way they have nipped off to Contin after some hike a bike. We have also been following the action with regular tweets from @richpips:

Good luck to team pips and we look forward to hearing how it went after some recovery time.

Rich and Tom are using Alpkit UK made bike luggage, the Ordos 2 tent and a few other bits from us, as well as Rapha clothing and Exposure lights.
