Bike Blenheim 2012

By Col | 22, Aug, 2012

The sun gods came out for Bike Blenhiem where the expanded two day format sees not only a series of Brompton events, sprint, marathon and even a world championship. It also boasts a Mtb sportive, two road bike sportives and a pink ribbon ride in aid of breast cancer.

On Saturday the Mtb riders arrived early with the carparks filling up from six in the morning. The mist and dew meant many of the riders getting caught out with the damp start, especially those choosing a fast running dry tyre. After lunch the serious business of time trial was a foot with the most serious carrying their bike everywhere around the event village so not a blade of wet grass would slow their progress.

The family rides and bike polo filled up the other times during the day that the awesome animal bike tour wasn't blasting out the tunes whilst Martin Ashton and Blake Samson were getting rad on the ramps. These guys were true professionals doing 5 shows a day and never failing to get a crowd buzzing.

Sunday started much the same with a misty but stunning morning in the grounds of Blenheim palace with the deafening hum of thousands of gears but this was just the warm up for the main event the Brompton World Champonship. A Le Mans start to their folded bike and what looked like some very unrehearsed bike mounting, and the equally unrehearsed and often painful dismounting.
