Alpkit DWS team

taking battle above the warm waters of Exeter's canal quayside
We shall be heading down to the UK's first DWS comp in Exeter to set up the isolation zone for competitors, while also entering team into the competition. We're not holding back either, scrounging together a ferocious team full of determination and plenty of wishful thinking. Regulars amongst the climbing wall circuit in the East Midlands they will be under scrutiny and only let back in having performed well. Let's meet the team...
One of Alpkit's staff is stepping up or should we say splashing down! In the week he is running the UK factory making all the bouldering and bike luggage, and will often need restraining from leaving early due to being just so darn super psyched about getting out on the rock. He has been climbing for 14 years both on plastic and rock, climbing a number of French 8a both roped and DWS, bouldering up to V10 and onsighting E5. He's also not too scared when it comes to DWS, falling off the last move of Vadage! Taking up the mantle of team manager, let's just hope he can manage to lead the troops to success!
The carpenter, rumour has it that John carries large tree trunks around all day so negates all need for training down the wall. We also heard that he will only ever use hand screwdrivers, to maximise the burn. Has onsighted E6, bouldererd 7C and with plenty of deep water solo experience, looks set to remain calm and collected going for the crux high over the water.
Top young gun Gracie is part of the GB Junior Bouldering Team. Last year Gracie smashed it and came 15th overall in the Junior European Bouldering comps. She is making good progress this year, finishing 7th in the senior Bouldering championships. Currently ranked 3rd in the UK for her age group in bouldering, we are hoping Gracie's competition and bouldering strength will pull her to the podium. Let's hope she doesn't get too scared at the top!! On loan from Wild Country, so a little nod to them too, although if we're quiet they may not know.
Keen Billy has been climbing for most of his life outside and in. When he was on the GB team he came 19th in one of the Euro rounds back in 2012. He might not be on the team anymore but we don't hold that against him as he's had some good results in both leading and bouldering over the years. Billy is keen for some real rock too, with a recent French 8b tick to his name and bouldering up to V9. He's also not scared of climbing at the sharp end, with some E6 and E5 onsights. At the moment Billy is climbing the best he has ever climbed and one of the best in the midlands. Lets hope this helps with the DWS.
UKC's website guru and a grit specialist, he assures us that he will not doctor the results as they go onto UKC. Two times Nottingham Depot Bouldering league champion, fighting off a strong field. Bouldered V9 in Font and led E7. A underpar performance for us at the ROCfest hasn't put us off giving him another chance, we know he's a pro and will pull out a fantastic performance (unless he's playing with his quadcopter). When it come to DWS he's been doing it for some time, notably splashing out on the famous Diablo, so he's got the head for it.
