A Climbing Unit update

Since opening, how have things gone?

Cu update1

With the hectic preperations out the way and the opening now a moment in history, we checked with Dan how things have gone now that his dream has turned into reality.

"What could be better than a friendly competition with your mates at Derby’s newest climbing wall? A friendly competition with your mates, 210 pints of free beer and an arsenal of prizes is the answer! Throughout the night over 200 goodies were given out including: Bouldering mats, t-shirts, towels, mini towels, chalk bags, balls, posters, stickers and more, it was EPIC!
Gradually, everyone crammed through the door to try their hand on problems. To our great relief, good feedback began to come in with particular praise for the Alpkit comp wall and Alpkits custom bouldering mats/seats as we had hoped. All in, a great night with the 200 competitors and 150 spectators creating a welcoming, social atmosphere, even if some of the music choice was questionable.
Now that things are a little less hectic some new events should be starting in the near future. Our  kids club has started and runs on Wednesdays 4:30 – 6:30 and Saturdays 10:30 – 12:30. They will work through the NICAS and NIBAS schemes until your kids are seasoned pros.
To keep the children entertained we have a Pirate Ship! This makes us the ideal venue for children’s parties, available to be booked for over sevens. Not to leave out the parents, we have been churning out quality coffees and teas for all the weary climbers or spectators.
Now that the boulder circuits are up and running, we will be resetting each week, often with guest route setters to keep things fresh.
The first couple of weeks have been awesome, now that we have most things sorted out we hope for the weeks to come to be better and better and look forward to seeing more new faces at The Climbing Unit."

Find out more info over at The Climbing Unit website. You can also check out some of the new circuits and goings on over at their YouTube channel, or if you want to be part of the social community check out their Facebook page.
