1 month and 3 comps
By Kenny Stocker | 30, Oct, 2012
During November Luke Tilley will be competing in 3 international climbing events, the European Youth Championships, a Senior World Cup in Kranj and the final round of the European Youth Cup series. Currently ranked 4th in the EYC series Luke is climbing better than ever and has high hopes for some good results.
For most people just cramming those 3 events into a month would be enough, but for those of you following Luke's blog you will know that he doesn't like to do things the easy way. In June he travelled overland by train to attended the European Youth Cup in Moscow, and this trip will continue in a similar vein, also to be undertaken using public transport.
As far as we can tell this isn't normal behaviour for an elite athlete, however a 3rd place in Moscow shows that strong ethics, talent, training and a sense of adventure can all coexist to make a competitive package!
It is an absolute pleasure for us to be able to support Luke in his attempts to balance his passion to climb at the top level with his strong environmental ethics. His efforts at making his climbing more sustainable are also being documented by final year students at Leeds University who have been following his life around Leeds as well as on the competition circuit.
This is a great effort and we look forward to seeing the story unfold.
