New Griffon hooded mid layer

The perfect layer for spring and summer evenings.
Here at Alpkit we’re constantly daydreaming about improving weather and longer days, now we’re in March it now feels like it’s just around the corner! Long days and nicer weather means more days out there in nice places, doing good things, and this means more kit to use! Coming in the next few months is another addition to our fleece mid-layer range called the Griffon.
The Griffon is a lightweight and packable fleece mid-layer that uses a gridded fleece backer to provide amazing warmth without excess weight and bulk – it quite literally punches above it’s weight. The soft grid on the back of the fabric not only feels great but it also allows for little pockets of air to get trapped and then warm up next to your skin. Then when you’re working hard, the thinner, lighter fabric is better at drawing any excess heat away from your body than traditional fleece.
The Griffon is a super adaptable piece that is equally suited to an after-work evening boulder or a weekend mission cycling the West Highland Way. The prototypes have been in high demand in the office and they’ve been out getting a lot of use for a range of activities, as well as featuring in our “Tale of Two Mountains” Spotlight on the Alpkit website and the latest Outpost (see https://www.alpkit.com/spotlight/tale-of-two-mountains).
Feature wise we’ve kept the Griffon pretty simple; a slim athletic fit to make it perfect for all you movers and shakers out there, a snug under helmet hood, low profile thumb loops and a chest pocket with a lock down slider. All these make it perfect for a multitude of different activities; it’ll sit comfortably underneath a harness or a hip belt, the chest pocket provides access to a phone, coins or snack regardless of activity and the thumb loops make it easy to snuggle down into the fleece when it’s a bit chillier. Although we toyed with the idea of making this a half zip style, when it’s not chilly, you’ve got a full length centre front zip to dump a load of heat. It also makes it really easy to just throw this on your back and head out regardless of your activity. Probably the other thing that immediately obvious is the fabric finish. Call it marl, call it melange or call it “that weird sort of two tone fabric” there’s no denying it looks pretty sharp and it offers a different style to our populkar Akita and Yakutian fleeces.
The Griffon will be on sale from mid-May at a tantalising price of £35. I suggest you grab one for when that nice weather comes back around!
