Students from the School of Adventure Studies sea kayak from Stykkisholmur to Grundafjordur, recording human impact on remote coastlines

Tasked with planning an international expedition, students from the School of Adventure Studies in Scotland wanted to plan something enriching and inspiring. So, they chose to sea kayak down the Icelandic coastline, recording and analysing human impact on the coastline. The Alpkit Foundation supported their trip by sending them two Brukits to take along with them, so we were keen to find out how they got on.

The group chose to sea kayak for their expedition to keep their impact on the coastline as low as possible whilst covering large distances, camping on the shoreline and carrying all their resources and equipment in and out of the field in order to leave no trace behind.

The team kayaked from Stykkisholmur to Grundafjordur and recorded human impact along the West coast of Iceland. Now back on dry land, they are putting together a video from the trip to present their findings on human impact on remote coastlines to community groups in Scotland, including the local children’s paddling club.
