Youth Climbing Series Round 1 Nottingham Climbing Centre

By Dan Bradley | 26, Jan, 2011

On the 22nd of January Nottingham Climbing Centre held the first round of the BMC Youth Climbing Series. The route setters had spent the previous 3 days getting the routes and boulder problems up to the correct standard with numerous amount of people setting trying and changing the routes.

We would like to welcome new team members Beth and Georgia Hoyland and Joe Czubkowski who climbed excellent throughout the day; Georgia came second in her category, Beth came fourth and Joe came 6th, to say he has only done a couple of competitions this was amazing!

Each category had 3 boulder problems and 3 routes to complete, Billy Ridal who was allowed to enter the competition this year may well of been in a category on his own as he flashed everything leaving all the other competitors well behind, to say he has just moved up into the oldest category this was very impressive.

In the girls oldest category, Gracie along with Billy had moved up groups and managed to take first place but only just beating Naomi, their final had to be made much harder in order to separate the group out, Nat, I believe for the first time and possibly not the last managed to beat her older sister Ailsa while Beth Hoyland was in 5th, Flo Tilley was in 6th position and Beth Garrett in 7th making it a clean sweep for the Nottingham team in this category!

In the 11-13 categories Alfie showed all how it’s done coming first, Alex 4th, Joe 6th and Ella also coming 6th place.
The team was looking very impressive in their new team tops and gave some very good performances to show the rest of the peaks how it’s done. A thank you to Ben Meakin, Tom Bonnert and Sarah Pashley who demoed the routes and not allowed to enter as they are in the British team (except for Ben who’s just too old).

Nottingham climbing centre are always interested in new team members, if you are interested in becoming part of the team applicants must not be over 15 years of age and should see Dan or email at dan@uptosummit.com.

All results can be seen on the Indoors Out website.
