Sheffield Walls Bouldering League

By Ashleigh Naysmith | 27, Nov, 2008

A couple of Mondays ago was the first round of the Sheffield Walls Bouldering League, so some of the Nottingham Junior Team and I (and a few parents) took a trip up to The Foundry to compete.  The structure of the comp differed to that of Nottingham as competitors were allowed to take as long as they wanted (from 5.30 till close) to complete the 25 boulder problems.

The problems were good (obviously not as good as the Alpkit Bouldering League at Nottingham wall- but that would be difficult!) and had a tendency to be quite powerful and reachy- although there were some really balancy problems set on the lead and top rope walls.

The reach of the boulder problems created an extra challenge for the Nottingham Junior Team who are all even shorter than me! But they all battled through and climbed amazingly. For 1 member it was their first comp, and it was a hard one at that, she did really well and really worked some of the problems. Some of the more experienced members of the Junior Team actually finished climbs I couldn’t! Impressive - surely the awesome coaches?! wink

All in all, it was a tiring comp but definitely worth doing and was good practice for the Juniors and I for the start of the Winter Competition Season.
