Round 1 at the Edge Climbing Centre

By Ashleigh Naysmith | 10, Mar, 2009

The team headed up to The Edge climbing centre for the 1st round of the BRYCS competition. The whole team attended, a few of them had already competed in previous BRYCS competitions whereas some of the younger members of the team entered the competition for the first time, despite their nerves. The older, experienced team members were expected to be up competing for podium places whilst the younger team members attended for the experience. All climbed very well and exceeded our expectations and made us all very proud.

The Results
In the boys 14-16 category - Ben Meakin finished an excellent 3rd despite some very stiff competition. James Parish was climbing very well until a gymnastics injury flared up and halted his chances of a podium place, he finished in 7th.

In the girls 14-16 category - Ailsa Graham finished in a brilliant 3rd despite also facing very stiff competition.

In the boys 11-13 category - Billy Ridal took 1st place in a very competitive group of eleven. Alfie Elliot-Anderson who attended for the experience still managed an impressive 7th.

In the girls 11-13 category- Naomi Tilley finished in an excellent 1st place in a large group of twelve. Nat Graham finished close on Naomi’s heels in a superb 2nd.

Leah Talbot, who again attended for the experience, was climbing very well until she accidently touched a feature and was taken off the route finishing in 11th.

Gracie Martin finished in an excellent 6th and is now deservedly a team member.
