Pint-Sized AdventuresA challenge worthy of your mini adventurers and explorers, with guidance and instruction from the Thornbridge Outdoors Team.
We're probably a little biased, but we reckon the benefits of adventure and the great outdoors cannot possibly be overestimated. And we don't just mean for ourselves, but for the next generation too.
In this new age of technology, it's not uncommon to worry that kids aren't getting enough time outside. Let's be honest, none of us could resist a few goes on a Nintendo or Gameboy as youngsters (and probably couldn't now either!), but nothing really compares to getting out and about in nature.
Aside from the fun and thrills of building tree houses, rolling down grassy hill or leaping across stepping stones, going on adventures - whatever the scale - fosters the development of key skills in young people and does wonders for their self-confidence and mental health.
The Nightline Challenge at Thornbridge Outdoors
That said, it's probably not wise to tell your 6-year-old to pack up a bag and head out to fend for themselves for a few days (partly because they'd probably forget their toothbrush): adventure doesn't have to be without structure. So, to create a happy middle ground, the Thornbridge Outdoors instructors will be running Mini Adventurer courses over the Big Shakeout Festival weekend.
Aimed at 4 - 8 year olds, the course involves a selection of activities to encourage the sprogs to work as a team, explore nature and overcome obstacles with a little guidance here and there from the experienced Thornbridge Outdoors instructors.
So what challenges will these mini-explorers be taking on? A low ropes task will test out their balance, trust, and confidence before they venture into the subterranean realms of The Molehole. Next, they'll navigate the Nightline before tackling the Thornbridge climbing wall. Parents will be present to keep an eye on their progress, but the kids will be encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the adventure.
If this sounds like a challenge worthy of your pint-sized explorer, get yourself over to the Big Shakeout Ticket page to book a place.
