Big Shakeout 2018 Food and Drink

Good food and drink are worth savouring, enjoying, and sharing... (like the best adventures!) Check out what's on the menu at the Big Shakeout 2018.

Whether it’s Nick making cheese fondue on a snowy day in the AK carpark, Dan making some cereal bars ready for a ride, or Hati making chapatis and dahl at the campsite… We sure know how to eat when we’re out on an adventure.

As much as we love creating delicious culinary concoctions on our camping stoves, sometimes it's nice to give your stove the day off, hang up your rucksack and have a hearty hot meal made for you (preferably with a nice beer too!).


The AlpKitchen

Pop in from 6:30am – 11am Saturday or 7:30am – 11am Sunday for Chef Jamie’s belter breakfasts. Come back from 12 – 3pm for hot food, sandwiches, cakes and snacks to see you through the afternoon.

Afternoon Tea

All those bake-offs we do at AKHQ aren’t for nothing! We’ll have a cake stall in the main arena area selling cakes - a festival isn’t a festival without cake.

Food on wheels on Friday evening and Saturday from about 3pm to keep you going.

Nether Edge Pizza Company

Back on popular demand to fill your stomachs with pizzary goodness, Nether Edge Pizza is a Sheffield-based, family-run company who push the boundaries of what belongs on a pizza. They’ll be serving up crispy, flavourful wood-fired pizzas, made using organically sourced and home-grown ingredients.

The Freakin’ Vegan

After something a little different? The Freakin’ Vegan takes inspiration from North African, Middle eastern and Indian cuisine to create original, tasty and healthy plant-based food with loads of flavour.

The Little Organic Diner

Based in Stone, the Little Organic Diner is all about organic produced sourced locally. They’ll be serving good quality, local organic burgers, hot dogs and fries. All their drinks are fair trade.

The Cheese Cave

For lovers of cheese, this is the food stand that dream are made of (although beware of the cheese dreams). Serving a mixture of cheese-based dishes, The Cheese Cave will give the words ‘cheese toastie’ a new meaning.


Foundation Bar

Open from 6pm Friday and 4pm Saturday. Nick P has sourced and painstakingly tested some fine beers, ciders and wines from the likes of Thornbridge and Kirkby Lonsdale breweries. You won’t find any disposable cups at our bar – we reuse our glassware every year!

The Dirty Old Bean Cafe

Back for a second year with their Italian coffee machine to keep you well caffeinated and filled with tea all weekend. All their teas and coffees come from Derbyshire based Northern Tea company, so they’re Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance Certified, and meet the Soil Association Organic Standard. Oh and they taste really good.

The Big Shakeout is a not-for-profit festival, all proceeds go to the Alpkit Foundation
