Alastair Humphreys at Big Shakeout

Spend an evening with Mr Microadventure himself Alastair Humphreys as he leads you through an inspirational and entertaining evening of adventure in true Boy's Own style. Of course it's not just the preserve of the boys and he'll be championing the microadventure for all, young and old, male or female.

In this evening of Microadventure Alastair will kick off with a presentation of some of his own personal experiences in a year where he constantly seems to be on a microadventure! Whether spending a night on an island, on top of a hill, or taking a group of school kids on their first ever bivvi, he's feverishly encouraging people to seek out adventure and wilderness close to home. Challenging themselves in a year of microadventure through short, simple, and cheap adventures. During the evening he will run through the whole concept of what a microadventure is, or can be. So let yourself be immersed in a mix of inspirational rhetoric, video and photography that illustrates just how fun and easy it can be, then before you know it you'll find yourself sleeping on top of a hill on a school night!

There are lots of oppurtunities to make the most of your time away from your busy life, sometimes you just need to have that little push and Alastair is perhaps the person to do that!

Following Alastair's talk the fun continues as he opens up the stage to compere a fun informal 'open mic-roadventure' session for anyone wanting to share their own special micro adventure experience. This is a open invite, so if you think you've got an interesting tale to tell then why not turn up and share it. It can be anything from 1 minute to 5, any longer then make sure you are prepared as friendly heckling may occur! (although we'll probably draw the line at rotten tomatoes) But don't be scared though, it's only for fun and we're hoping this will be a great evening where you can simply be inspired and enjoy friendly banter with like minded people. To make it worth getting involved there will be a variety of spot prizes through the evening to reward the best and encourage those trying hardest! Oh and to make things more interesting we'll be trying to avoid the projector, so be imaginative and bring props! Kit you used, maps, printed photos, or maybe it's simply a recital of a poem about it, basically anything to help tell your story.

So make sure you get to the Big Shakeout as early as possible on Friday, grab a drink from the Blue Monkey bar and burger from the bar and make your way to the microadventure hub.
