The course is all set for the European Freestyle Champs and looks great and the weather looks like its going to be one of the best weekends this year.
Matt D’s been busy devising a new judging system especially for the ALPJAM to ensure we get some wild and exciting rides..and I think he’s only gone and done it.
Rides will be rewarding for variety but by putting sequences of moves together will boost your score like playing on an X-Box.
So here goes with the complex bit. (It sounds much more complicated than it is!! Trust me.)
Moves are split into 3 categories. Each category has a final multiplier attached to it.
Cartwheel based (x10)
Loop based (x50)
Entry / Trophy (x200)
Sequences are then scored 1 point for your first move, 2 for your second, 4 for your third, 8/fifth, 16/sixth and so on.
So if you enter the hole pull off a 2 left-hand cartwheels, stop, set-up, then do a 2 right-hand cartwheels, you’ll score for 2 sequences.
Sequence 1 = (1+2)x10 + Sequence 2 (1+2)x10 = 60 points.
(Because the system is variety based your first cartwheel would count as a spin, e.g. you cannot pull the same move twice.)
but if you entered the hole and pulled 2 left-hand cartwheels, a split wheel, then 2 right-hand cartwheels all as one continuos sequence you’d score.
(1+2+4+8+16)x10 = 310 points
The sequence multiplier is triggered by the first move of your sequence.
So if you did a loop, straight into 2 left-hand cartwheels, followed by 2 right-hand cartwheels you’d score.
(1+2+4+16+32)x50 = 1550
To give the sport class a fighting chance they will be allowed to score on attaining the feature, front surf, back surf, shuvits, old skool moves, and roundhouses. Experts will not score for performing any of these moves. The trick for the sports class will be linking them into a smooth sequence to obtain a healthy score.
To score a sequence each move must flow from the previous with no obvious stop and set up. You can perform as many moves/sequences as you want but as soon as you flush from the hole you cannot re-enter the hole until your next ride. Each ride will have a maximum time limit of 45secs.
The only categories are sport and expert so it doesn’t matter if you are male or female and paddle C1, K1, big boat, little boat you’ll be going at it together. Each jam will last for 25 mins and you must decide which of your rides will score.
See you there, Jim.

I’ve been talking a few people and I think we are going to run a double or quits system on the prizes.
If you win your Jam you’ll have the chance to take the prize and run.... or gamble & compete in the next Jam. If you win the next Jam you win both prizes… however if you lose the prize goes to the second place person in the first jam.
Hope this makes sense, Jim.
