When you are pushing yourself to the very limit of your endurance the last thing you want is a sleepless night.

This is the most demanding sleepzone to plan for as you try to balance lightweight, small pack size with comfort. You will need your mat for sitting out delays in airport waiting lounges, crashing in tea houses during hot and humid multi-day approaches, long stays at desolate base camps and the critical final lightweight summit push in the freezing cold.

You might be away for just a few hours, carrying your mat just for emergencies or to provide a false sense of comfort as you catch a couple of hours kip before the sun comes up. Or you could be in it for the long haul where your only point of refuge is your Walkman and your tent. Either way making sure you have an effective sleeping system will help you perform better during the day. You are going to be self-sufficient so your sleeping mat needs to be reliable, and if it does break you are going to need to be able to fix it.

For mountain activities where weight is a concern. World travel where space is a premium. Anything where weight and packed size out-way comfort and durability.

The challenges you are taking on mean compromises will need to be made. Pack space must be small, light is good.. both on the hill and in travelling to your destination. To get these two factors down we need to use lighter weight materials, die-cut foam and trim the mat down so that there is no excess weight. Adventure racers will also like these as they share many of the performance requirements of low weight and small pack size. Airo comes in a choice of two lengths: 180 and 120cm.
