Phud

We had two cars, one bouldering mat and managed to scrounge some rock boots from the University climbing wall for those without. A quick search on UKClimbing revealed a group of boulders not far away - a chilled lunch lounging bouldering session sounded like a good idea.

Made in the UK- The Alpkit team, especially Anna, Ben, Pete and Jim have worked hard - a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into perfecting these mats. Find out more about the Alpkit boulder mat range.

Further Information

When developing the new UK made Phud our focus was on taking the mat back to what it was originally conceived as - a no frills, low cost, entry-level pad for folks just getting into bouldering. High quality foam wrapped in durable 600D PU coated polyester. Simple shoulder strap, Taco construction, Chamfered corners. Click to read about the development of the new Phud.

The foam in the Phud has not been compromised for price and is the same excellent foam as you will find in all our pads. Based on some in-depth research by Pete, listening to what our customers have to say, and reinforced by our own climbing teams feedback we have changed the proportions and densities of the foam of our pads since our original Phud and Woomf. They now give a sweeter, softer feeling landing surface that is more capable of handling landings from differing heights. The close density match of the layers also combines to increase the long term durability of the foam and reduces the fade noticed after heavy long term use. The foam we purchase is from the same suppliers as we have always done and it is as good as it gets. We have never used cheap packaging foam.
