“Verdicts in” the poles are good and compare favourably to the Leki Carbon units. My girlfriend is ‘over the moon’ and we have been on two fairly heavy Treks in the Comeragh Mountains over here in Ireland already. I have tried them and they do exactly “what is says on the pole” Excellent value for money…
Ordered on Monday, arrived on Tuesday, tested on Tuesday.
Light.
Easy to adust hight.
Snow baskets for the winter mountains.
More importantly I have been recovering from knee injuries and the poles are aiding my recovery ten fold.
cheers alpkit
The poles look and feel great and after a quick wintry ascent of Blencathra via Sharp Edge, they perform well too. I bought these for my partner and while I’m no big fan of poles, after trying them out, I’m ordering a pair for myself! They are so light, that on descending rapidly, you can reposition them quickly and with less effort, enabling the user to travel faster and safer on uneven ground.
Good product with the usual great service,
Thanks.
I have just purchased a pair for my girlfriend and am convinced that I will receive in return this Christmas a Leki Carbon pole. You guys will have to wait until then for a better review. However I am initially pleased with the Product on first inspection and is soooo light compared to my old Leki Aluminium pole. Watch this space!!
Excellent product. Having recently returned to hill walking after a 10 year break, I’d decided on some poles to assist in dragging my aging bulk through the mountains of Wales. After much confusion over the pros and cons of the various Lekis on offer (too much choice if you ask me), a brief search of the interweb brought up Alpkit. Excellent - one choice, cork or rubber grips. I can handle that. Anyhoo, order went in Sunday night. Despatch confirmed on Monday and parcel duly arrived Tuesday. Excellent service and a fine, fine product. The poles are light, strong and fantastic value. Quality appears to be top notch. They look far more expensive than they are too! Well done Alpkit!
I’ve used poles before and whilst I’ve always liked the concept, I’ve never been able to ‘get on with them’. The CarbonLites, however, were a different matter. To test them, the chums and I set off from Wasdale Head to Pooley Bridge and I surprised myself by using the CLs almost continuously. The weight meant that I hardly felt them but great muppety Odin I noticed the benefits whilst descending Crinkle Crags having just done the Scafells and Bowfell! The only problem was that - as with other users - I found that one of the cork handles began to slip gradually, eventually becoming unusable. An on-mountain repair using electrical tape to increase the width of the pole and secure it in place did the trick (although, I’m not sure of the weight implications). This is a minor criticism of another awesome Alpkit product!
Nice and light. Had a problem with the sections jamming, but Alpkit was so efficient, it hardly mattered. They sent it out after repair on the same day they received it, and it was free apart from our postage (£1.30 or something). Thanks Alpkit!
Love the lightness and really tough from the Cairngorms to Iceland. But shortly after I got them the foam on the grip handle came adrift and one of the wrist loops has unattached and my feeble repairs make it a bit abrasive on the poor hand. Do you offer a repair service?
Very good poles so far, light and strong, carbon fiber has excellent Chicks Dig It factor. Problem with the two-piece grips though - foam separated from the grip on the second day out. Not really trail-fixable as I don’t pack super glue, but easily done up once home. Great gear, but please change to one-piece grips!
Recently took Carbonlites for some winter walking in the Polish High Tatras - the poles had 5 days of abuse being planted in thigh-high snow and icy tracks. No complaints from me, (and carbon meant no freezing cold poles to handle) and while I’ve not tried other poles I wouldn’t hesitate to reccommend Alpkits’ Carbonlites for slighter folk. (I weigh 60kg). Certainly a good bit of kit at a great price for those wanting to give poles a try. And they look good.
