Is bamboo the new cotton?

I have a 95 per cent bamboo and 5 per cent spandex t shirt from New Zealand that I’m very happy with for all the reasons you mention. Only washed it once and so far so good, but time will tell. It is great for hiking as it wicks well and is soft against the skin and cheaper than things like merino wool.

Hey guys,

Good to see you’re trying to explore beyond cotton- its the plant that takes up loads of water, pesticides and 25% of all fertilisers… and all that for a plant we don’t even eat!
A suitable alternative that has been suggested is hemp, made from cannabis plants.
There are a few companies that make hemp t-shirts, mainly US based- I’ve seen hemp t-shirts for 10$-ish. Have no clue how these shirt perform, fit or look like after 50 times washing, but maybe hemp is worth a look?
