A short trip on my bike
Not having any boxes to deal with my day was pleasingly free of commitments. As much as I enjoy snow boarding I wouldn’t do it everyday. Often it is more rewarding to do something under your own steam, something that does not require taking the car out of the garage. So today the board stayed at home and the bike had a much needed outing.
I have this short circuit out of Lecco, along the river and up to the deserted village of Consonno. This is followed by a fast down hill through Galbiate and back to Lecco. It’s not a long ride, but the climb up to Consonno gets the blood flowing and burns off a few Christmas calories.
It was cold and damp, the weather couldn’t decide if it should rain or snow, and the trees they looked like they were permanently stuck in the autumn. It only took a few minutes to work up a sweat and I could remove my windproof. I was glad of my high collar which kept the breeze out and I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks as the cool wind rushed over them.
The pleasing part of this circuit is the climb up to Consonno. There is nothing more depressing than cars rushing past you as you grind up a hill, but this road is all but deserted and I could zig zag across the road and enjoy the sound of my own tyres rolling over the track.
The summit comes all to early, and it is on with the windproof for the descent down to Galbiate. Normally from here you get to see Lago di Annone with the sun setting over the distant Monte Rosa, but today a blanket of fog denied me a sprinkling of icing on my cake.
