Pete joins the team

Pete Dollman has dragged himself all the way from Dundee to join the team. He is an avid climber, mountaineer and boulderer who over the last few days seems to have picked up a passion for the water. We still need to get him out on the grit, but that shouldn’t be too long away.

Pete will be helping out in the warehouse.

We are really happy to have him as part of the team, and hopefully the delights of the Peak District, Wales and the rest of England can prove a match for what he has moved away from.

Aloha from the Alpkit team.

Kenny, Jim, Col, Jenni and Nick

Saab Salomon Results

27th place for Team Alpkit in this years Saab Salomon MountainX Race. It looks like the guys had a tough final day after an excellent fourth day in which they placed 19th in the canoeing and 12th in the trail run. Not bad at all for their first MountainX Race, especially considering they went into the event with limited canoeing experience. I am sure the guys will post about their experience soon on their blog. Well done guys!

Saab Salomon Mountain Race Day 3

A less aerobic day for the teams as they explored the vertical rock of the Savoie Mont Blanc region. The field was split into two groups; one engaging in a vertical descent down the Magland Canyon while the other raced up the Col de la Colombiere cliff faces. It was to be a day mixing canyoning, via ferrata and climbing, but of course no MountainX Race day would be complete without a 13km trail run! More progress for the Alpkit team moving into 24th and within just one place of Team Inov-8, great news considering their relative inexperience on this kind of terrain.

Saab Salomon Mountain Race Day 2

Day 2 of the Saab Salomon took our intrepid team off their feet and onto the saddle. The first MTB stage involved nearly 2000m of elevation gain over 46km through the scenic hills surrounding Beaufort, but it is unlikely the guys will have had much time to take in the views. The teams stayed on their bikes for the next stage, a 32km ride over the Col des Aravis from Flumet to Thones which also hosted the 10km evening trail run. It was a good day for Matt, Phil and Oli who had moved up to 26 overall by the end of the day.

Saab Salomon MountainX Race Day 1

With the warmup trail run out of the way the Saab Salomon got underway with the first of its mountain stages. This was always going to be testing new ground for the Alpkit Mnt-X team who come from a strong background in Triathalon. Underestimating conditions on the glacier the team arrived at the finish line feeling somewhat dehydrated and in 26th position for the stage. The day didn’t finish there, it was followed by a 6km trail run; more familiar ground for the team and placing them in 28th overall. There are some race reports on the SleepMonsters website.
