Vacancy: Customer Service Hero Sidekick

One of our Customer Service Heroes, Jenni, is leaving us to head off on maternity leave and we are looking for a Sidekick to learn the ropes and to cover her duties whilst she’s away.

Although we are still a relatively small company, our reputation for great customer service is huge and we want to maintain that.  Ideally you will have experience of a customer service environment, be able to work to deadlines and have proven high levels of English and Maths as well as solid basic IT skills.  An active interest in the outdoors and an awareness of the gear available would be advantageous.  Your daily duties would include:

  • Answering all emails and telephone calls promptly
  • Managing print runs of orders to meet dispatch deadlines
  • Administrating returns
  • Ordering of office and warehouse supplies
  • Daily sales reconciliation
  • Understanding basic warehouse layout, functions and processes
  • Understanding, and being able to help with, daily picking/packing procedures

As excellent customer service is Alpkit’s bread and butter, you will be an important part of what we do.  We have a relaxed office environment but we work hard.  Tea (and coffee for the non-believers) is always to hand, decent music is almost always on but when there is stuff to do, we knuckle down and get on with the job.

What we are offering
We are offering a six-month, fixed term contract ideally starting from 11 June 2012.  The hours of work will be 30 hours a week, days and times negotiable but may include weekend work.  The salary will meet National Minimum Wage.

More about us
Alpkit is based in Eastwood, within easy reach of junctions 26 or 27 of the M1.

Interested?
Please send your CV to us along with a covering letter/email explaining why you would like to be part of the team to jobs@alpkit.com or by post to the address on the website.
Deadline
1 June 2012

Prefer to work in manufacturing?
We are also looking to employ a machinist.

European climbing results

It has been a great weekend of European climbing competition for team GB athletes.

Shauna Coxsey took 2nd place in a nail biting finish to the Innsbruck leg of the bouldering world cup. Going into problem 4 Shauna was in 1st place, narrowly ahead of Austrian climber Anna Stohr on number of attempts. Shauna needed a couple of goes before she could top out the last problem giving Anna an opportunity. Climbing in front of her home crowd Anna didn't make any mistakes, flashing the problem and taking the gold.

This is Shauna's best result on the world cup series, and a successful event as a whole for team GB with Ned Feehally and Stewart Watson both making the mens final.

The European Youth Cup took place in Ratho, and we were pleased to see a strong turn out by both current and ex Nottingham Junior Climbing Team members.

Luke Tilley led the way in his last year in the male juniors category  finishing in an excellent 5th place. Other results

Sarah Pashley 19th Female Youth A lead
Flo Tilley 20th Female Youth B lead
Gracie Martin 23rd Female Youth B lead
Tom Bonnert 15th Male juniors lead
Billy Ridal 19th Male Youth B lead

Full results available on the IFSC website.

WRT Alpkit Frame Bag competition

Win a all new UK made Alpkit frame bag for Welsh Ride Thing 2012.

To coincide with the wheels of the Alpkit factory turning again we are going to be giving away a custom fitted framebag at this years 3 day Welsh Ride Thing on the 2/3/4 June

Alpkit loves the Welsh Ride Thing in that it allows the chance to socialise with others while getting out for a couple of days on your bike, being self sufficient and carrying everything you need. No stress, no elitism, plus we all know how much fun it is optimising your kit to fit on the bike for a multi day off road trip. So this is where having a good carrying system on your frame comes in handy. You can read Paul Erringtons take on last years event over in our Daring Deeds

Here at Alpkit HQ our factory is pretty much back up and running again after our move. Not only are we getting back onto producing our bouldering pads, we are also currently prototyping designs and systems for producing framebags, saddle bags and a variety of other bike related kit.
Now is your chance to win a hot new Alpkit framebag, custom fitted for your bike and one of the first off the production line.

How to enter
Before you head off to the Welsh Ride Thing grab your bike, a piece of cardboard, pen and a print out of the frame bag template instruction pdf.

Follow the instructions and then send your frame bag template to us, with a comment on the back about why you should win the bag, by the 25th May. If you have any problems with the instructions please contact us.

Then just like a scene from Cinderella, we will choose our favourite comment and bring the winning frame bag along on June the 2nd, where current lightest bike champ Nick will see who's frame it will fit...

Send entries to: Alpkit HQ. WRT Frame Bag Comp. Units 12-14 Oak House, Moorgreen Ind Park, Newthorpe, Nottingham  NG16 3QU

All entries must be with us by Friday 25th May.
As we will be giving the prize away at the event, the competition is only open to those registered and taking part in Welsh Ride Thing 2012.
Entries not valid for Alpkit employees taking part.

Shauna success at Melloblocco

Shauna on her way to flashing Il Baffo di Dalì at Melloblocco.

Shauna Coxsey has had a successful first visit to the Melloblocco bouldering festival in Italy. In a rain effected event Shauna made the most of the 1st day to complete 5 of the 9 prize winning blocs (2 flashes). Unfortunately rain shut down any further attempts but she had already done enough to secure top spot.

This was Shauna's first visit to the valley, and her first taste of bouldering on granite! Of the men to top out problems these included Brits James Garden and Martin Smith.

Melloblocco 2012

It is the Melloblocco bouldering festival in Val di Mello, Italy this weekend. A strong Alpkit team is heading out including Shauna Coxsey and James Garden along with amatuer pad-caddy Kenny. Both James and Shuana are looking forward to launching themselves into the melee and exploring the valley for the first time. For Shauna, who is currently competing in the bouldering world cup it likely to be a welcome break. Melloblocco is primarily about the climbing but there are also parties, presentations, exhibitions, field-tests, meetings, aperitifs and more.. visit the Melloblocco website for more details.

4th for Shauna in Vienna

Hot conditions made for an exceptionally difficult semi-finals but Shauna qualified for the finals in 2nd place. The final itself took place in the relative coolness of the evening. With Shalagina eliminating herself with injury it was down to just 5 competitors. Noguchi edged out in front but 2nd and 3rd place were all to play for going into the final problem. Shauna got one hand on the final hold but failed to match, giving up third place to Alex Puccio. Gripping stuff! Next stop for Shauna the Melloblocco bouldering festival in Italy.

Another flight, another country, another comp!

Shauna Coxsey travels to Slovenia this weekend with the British Bouldering team for another stage in the 2012 Bouldering World Cup. Earlier this year Shauna travelled to Heuco in America and whilst she was there took part in the American Bouldering Championships eventually placing 3rd behind Alex Puccio. Since then Shauna has turned the tables, winning both the CWIF in Sheffield and the Tierra Boulder Battle in Stockholm. Despite it being her first season on the International circuit Shauna has carried through this great pre-season form to place 4th in China. 2012 looks set to be a busy and successful year for Shauna.

The event will be streamed live during qualification on Saturday and the semi-finals and final on Sunday.
